James O'Connell , age 85,
of Indian Hills in Waterloo and Poplar Beach in Romulus, passed away Friday (December 30, 2011) at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends may call and share stories, laughs and a few tears at the Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid, on Monday (January 2) from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday (January 3), at the Ovid Federated Church and interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels Program, 83 W. Bayard Street, Seneca Falls, NY 13148, in Jimmy’s memory.
Jimmy was the son of the late James and Irene (Hogan) O'Connell of Romulus, New York and was born on February 19, 1926. Jimmy was a devoted husband to his wife Joy who passed away 4 years ago. They had been married for 58 years. They resided in the Romulus area and enjoyed rebuilding the family home on Poplar Beach. During the past few years, he relocated to Indian Hills in Waterloo and enjoyed his new neighbors. Jimmy was a World War II Veteran and worked at the Seneca Army Depot for 37 years as the special weapons inspector. After retirement, he worked at George Lynd Hardware in Ovid, New York and loved interacting with those on the street and in the store. He was a member and former chief of the Romulus Fire Department and South Seneca Sportsman Club. A devoted loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend he always put his family first. He loved spending time with family and friends and was known as "Poppie" or "Sausage" especially by his euchre friends. Jimmy in his early years enjoyed playing sports, hunting,and was well-known for his ability to pitch horseshoes. Jimmy spent numerous hours sitting on the deck overlooking Cayuga Lake and supervising the swimming, fishing and boating activities. He enjoyed traveling with Joy to visit family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Diane (John) Sabourin Plattsburgh, grandchildren Erin and Kevin, daughter Reenie (Richard) O'Marra Louisville, Kentucky, granchildren, Tim (Dawn) and Neil Larsen, son Edward (Kathleen) O'Connell Waterloo grandchildren Beth and Dan (Kristen) and great-grandson Mason James, daughter Laurie (Edward) Bishop Le Roy, grandchildren Kaley and Meghan, son Patrick of Auburn. He is also survived by 5 step-grandchildren and spouses and 9 step great-grandchildren. Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, Mary. . The family would like to thank Jimmy for his loving support and for always putting his family first. In addition, the family would like to thank his friends that stopped by the house or made a phone call to show their friendship over the past four years! Finally, the family would like to give "special" thanks to Corky Trotter, his home caretaker, that allowed him to be independent in his own home and to share some extra laughs with.

Francisco Santiago, age 81,
of Geneva passed away at Geneva General Hospital on Sunday (Dec 25).
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00pm on Thursday, (Dec 29) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main St, Ovid. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00am on Friday, (Dec 30) officiated by Pastor Juan Bautisa Colon, prayers of committal will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva. The family requests that contributions in Francisco’s memory be made to the Geneva Hispanic Church of God, 33 Kirkwood Ave, Geneva, NY 14456 in lieu of flowers.
Francisco is survived by his wife, Rosa E. Velazquez, his sons, Francisco Jr. or Newark, Miguel (Nancy), Victor Manuel, his daughters, Betty J. (Antonio) Reyes, Rosa I. (Joe Bermudez) Maria I. (Angel Saldana), and Denise M. (Angel Ortiz) Santiago all of Geneva, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and sisters, Julia, Santa, and Petronila Santiago of Florida and Puerto Rico.

Ella Mae Wilson Yonge, age 90,
formerly of Potter Road, died at the home of her daughter in law in Odessa, on Friday (Dec 23).
Ella Mae was born on September 8, 1921 at the family homestead in the Town of Covert, a daughter of the late Byron B. and Jennie (Davis) Holford. She was a devoted homemaker and was referred to as “Ovid’s Cleaning Lady” assisting the Allen, Franklin and Covert families, among others. She took in laundry and prepared meals in addition to her housekeeping. She was a lifetime resident of the area, and had been a member of the Interlaken Reformed Church. She was proud of the special Palm Sunday in which she and all of her children were baptized.
She is survived by her son, Leonard (Barb) Wilson of Interlaken; a daughter, Shirley (Jack) Hasselaar of Beverly, West Virginia, her daughter in law, Genevieve Wilson of Odessa and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Ella Mae was preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred Wilson in 1945 and by Ralph Yonge in 1982, and by her sons, John in 1956, Buddy in 2006, Elmer in 2010 and by her siblings, Grace, Floyd and Byron.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am to Noon on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street, Ovid. A funeral service will then be held at the funeral home at Noon on Tuesday, led by Mark Beardsley. Prayers of committal will be held at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken. William G. “Bill” Hallett
of 1466 Shaw Road, passed away at his home on Friday, (Dec 23). A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, (Dec 28) at Lakeview Assembly of God, 3601 State Route 14 in Watkins Glen, co-officiated by pastors Mark Houseknecht and Marvin Reed. Bill was born on April 13, 1938 in the town of Lansing, a son of the late Ulysses S. Grant and Katie L. (Garnsey) Hallett. His family moved to the Lodi area when he was a young boy, and he graduated from South Seneca High School in 1955. He served his country in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. Bill worked at Wagner Vineyards for several years, before and during a long career at Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls. He began as a machinist and was promoted to foreman during his 29 years with Goulds. Following his early retirement, Bill worked at Seneca Falls Technology.
His hobbies included gunsmithing, wood working, and the past several years his time and devotion was directed to his special grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna; his children, Lucas (Donna) Hallett and their children, Ambria, Tevin and De’Angelo all of Ithaca, and Kathy (Chris) Trim and their boys, Elijah and Peter all of Lodi, and by his three brother’s families. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, David Colby, John and Fred Hallett.

Isabel M. Manning, age 90,
formerly of Ovid, died in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday, December 9, 2011.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, Dec 13th at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, Dec 14th at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. John Kotun. Prayers of committal will be held at Ovid Union Cemetery. Isabel was born on December 7, 1921 in Penn Yan, a daughter of the late Harry and Selma (Larsen) Lamphier. She was a graduate of the Penn Yan Academy, and had a career that spanned more than 30 years at Willard Psychiatric Center, primarily at Elliot Hall. Isabel was a loving mother and devoted grandmother. She took great pride in caring for her patients at Willard, and after retiring, helping elderly people in surrounding communities. She was a Gold Star Mother, and an honorary member of the Manning-Lilla American Legion Post #463 in Ovid.
She is survived by her children; Charles W. (Sharon) Manning of Romulus, Lance Manning of Middleburgh, NY, Collin S. (Joan) Manning of Nazareth, PA, Victoria (Bob) Willson of Colfax, NC, and Frank (Lena) Manning of Kennett Square, PA, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a sister in law, Fay (Vernon) English and numerous nieces and nephews. Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Manning in 1977, a son, Bruce Manning in 1967 and by her brothers, Roland, Raymond, Maurice “Babe” and by a sister, Viola “Tootsie” who recently passed away in November.

1951,

of

Ewing.

his
high

graduation
he
was
drafted

the

Army,
which
led
to a
20
year
career.
He
was
assigned
to
the
245th
Military
Police
Company,
and
served
throughout
the
United
States
and
in
Germany.
He
retired
from
Seneca
Army
Depot
in
1991,
and
pursued
a
degree
at
TC3.
With
his
credentials
as a
paralegal,
he
embarked
on a
second
career,
working
at
the
Midey
Law
Firm,
and
for
nearly
20
years,
he
has
worked
at
the
Bradshaw
Law
Firm
in
Seneca
Falls.
His
intense
interest
and
respect
for
the
judicial
system
led
to
his
elected
position
of
Ovid
Town
Justice,
an
office
he
has
held
for
over
17
years.
He
was
a
member
of
the
former
Fayette
Masonic
Lodge
and
an
active
member
of
the
NYS
Magistrates
Association.
Wayne
enjoyed
his
camping
season
at
SnedAcres
with
dear
friends
and
family.
He
also
enjoyed
camping
throughout
New
York
State,
especially
the
Lake
George
Balloon
Fest
every
September.
He
has
many
fond
memories
of
his
travels,especially
this
past
summer,
fishing
at
Dean's
Cove
and
being
introduced
to
DirtMotor
Sports.
He
is
survived
by
his
wife,
Jennie;
his
children,
Jason
(Diana)
Ewing,
Jolene
(Chris)
Holley,
and
Jeremy
Ewing;
grandchildren,

his
family
for
the
ceremony.

on
the

of

burial.

Dick
was

1960.
He
attended
Cortland
State
Teachers
College,
and
graduated
from
the
Willard
School
of
Nursing.
Upon
graduation,
he
entered
the
US
Army
and
served
as a
nurse
in a
military
hospital
in
Vietnam.
During
his
professional
career
he
was
employed
at
Willard
Psychiatric
Center
and
retired
from
the
Dick
VanDyke
Addition
Treatment
Center
in
2000.
He
loved
hunting
deer
in
the
deep
woods
of
the
Finger
Lakes
National
Forest,
was
an
avid
sky
diver
and
became
an
accomplished
bowler
later
in
life,
competing
in
numerous
leagues
and
tournaments
in
Trumansburg,
Ithaca,
and
Geneva.
Dick
was
also
elected
as
Seneca
County
Coroner,
serving
from
1994
to
2003.
His
gentle
demeanor
and
genuine
kindness
will
be
fondly
remembered
by
his
family
and
the
community.
He
is
survived
by
his
wife,
Susan;
a
son,
Lars
Christensen
of
Brooklyn,NY;
a
daughter,
Elka
(Michael
Brewster)
Christensen
of
Sydney,
Australia;
his

farm,
where
he
farmed
crops
and
raised
beef
cattle
until
the
time
of
his
recent
illness.
Charlie
loved
the
peacefulness
of
his
farm,
and
found
joy
in
tending
to
his
cows,
having
the
"know
how"
to
repair
his
own
machinery
and
his
time
spent
with
his
family.
He
is
survived
by
his
wife
of
44
years,
Martha;
a
son,
Charles
G.
(Rebecca)
Cherwak
of
Lodi;
his
sisters
in
law,
Sally
(John)
Hubbard
and
Mary
Gregg;
and
his
nieces
and
nephews.
Charlie
was
recently
preceded

death
by
his
