Robert H. “Bob” Dox, age 85, of Geneva passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, June 13, 2014.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Bart Minson, OFMCap at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid. Bob was born on July 12, 1928 in Geneva, a son of the late Willard Henry and Daisy (Ombler) Dox. He served in the United States Air Force from 1947 until he was honorably discharged in 1950. Bob worked for many years at Willard Psychiatric Center, received many meritorious awards and retired as a safety officer. Throughout the years, Bob was a member of many organizations including NYS Policeman’s Association, Seneca and Ontario Republican Committees, South Seneca Sportsmen’s Club, and Lodi Rod and Gun Club. He also served on the South Seneca School Board and was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Bob was a hunter and fisherman participating in a variety of sports over the years. He played in men’s and mixed golf leagues at Bonavista Golf Course, was a member of the Willard State Hospital Softball team, and league bowling in Trumansburg. He also enjoyed spending time camping and snowmobiling.  Following his retirement, he spent time at his home in South Carolina. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and shared his love of hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jane Oakleaf Dox of Geneva; a son, Allan (Susan) Dox of Irmo, SC; a daughter, Colleen (Kevin) Dox-Griffith of Rochester; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Jean Fleming of Geneva; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Brian; two brothers, Willard Jr. and Myron; three sisters, Mae, Alice, and Almida; and in-laws, Leon Oakleaf and Doris LaFleur.
