George F. Yaw, 87, of Varick died on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Geneva General Hospital.
 
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 S. Main Street, Ovid.  A Memorial Service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11:00am officiated by Reverend Adrian Tierson of the United Church of Phelps.

George was born in Trumansburg, a son of the late Washington and Lena (Grant) Yaw.  He served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the Ovid VFW Post #7200. 
 
George worked in the construction field until his retirement in 1989 and was a member of the Empire State Carpenters Local #277.He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, fishing, hunting, playing euchre, doting over his beloved cats, and spending time with his family.
 
George is survived by his children, Gary Stephen (Doris) Yaw of Waterloo, David M. (Linda) Yaw of Romulus and Betty (Ronald) Green of Geneva; siblings Dorothy Wright of Trumansburg, Alice (Larry) Thayer of Ithaca, Mary (Bud) Backner of Willard and James Yaw of Cortland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and close friends, Janice Hyde and Rod Czubat. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret: a daughter Karen Craig; and siblings John “Freddie” Yaw and Floyd Yaw.
