Ray was born on January 17, 1933 in Howard, New York, a son of the late Lester and Georgetta (Hooey) Preston.  He graduated from Romulus High School in 1952, and married his high school classmate and sweetheart, Madaline Hilkert on May 23, 1953. Ray was a rural mail carrier for the Romulus Post office for over 30 years, retiring in 1991, and had worked at Willard Psychiatric Center, Sampson State School, and Hutchings Psychiactric Center, retiring as chief of safety, with a total of 27 years of state service. Ray was an avid bowler, stock car driver, and always followed racing.  He had been an active member of the Romulus Fire Department for many years, and had served as a member of the Romulus Central School Board. He truly enjoyed his retirement years, golfing and meticulously maintaining his home and lawns, along with all of the other pleasures of retirement after so many years of hard work, including wintering in North Fort Myers, Florida since 2004. Ray was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather, affectionately known to his family as “Papa”
