Irene T. Stephens, age 91, lifetime resident of the Ovid/Interlaken/Trumansburg areas, died on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Seneca Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo, her home for the past five years.

Irene was born on January 15, 1925, one of ten children born to the late Clarence and Carrie (Quigley) Porter.  She attended Interlaken Central School, and began her large family after her marriage to Charles D. Stephens. Together they raised their 8 children, while Irene also worked at Willard State Hospital as a therapy aide, retiring in 1980 after 32 years of service.  Charles and Irene spent several years in Hudson, Florida, returning to the area in 1993.  She enjoyed her crafts, reading, cooking, crocheting and spending time with her extensive family.

Irene is survived by her children; Nancy I. (Norman) Kelsey of Waterloo, Sally I. (Eugene) Maleski of Seminole, FL, Sue A. (Harold) Jennings of Romulus, Donald J. (Reg) Stephens of Greece,NY and Robert L. (Yolanda) Stepehens of Delaware; 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren; her siblings, Howard (Sherry) Porter and William (Sylvia) Porter of Interlaken, and Betty (Dick) Westbrook of Interlaken. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles;  her children, Charles C. and John P. Stephens and Linda L. Kuebler; and by her siblings, Frank, Carl, Raymond, George and Clarence Porter and Florence Champion. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00am at the Varick United Methodist Church with interment at Fair View Cemetery in Sheldrake.
