James E. "Vince" VangalioJames E. “Vince” Vangalio, age 63, of 7099 Orchard Street, passed away on April 4, 2018 at Geneva General Hospital, following an extended illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Interlaken Reformed Church, 8315 North Main Street, officiated by Pastors David Leonard and Bill Hoffman.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Jim’s memory to the Interlaken Reformed Church, PO Box 335, Interlaken, NY 14847 or the Ovid Fire Department, PO Box D, Ovid, NY 14521.

Jim was born in Ithaca, NY on July 28, 1954, the only son of James J. and Dorothy (Weaver) Vangalio. He was a 1972 graduate of South Seneca High School, and began his working career at Willard Psychiatric Center. Jim was married to Michele Byrne on July 12, 1975.  He was a principle in Kal-Van Construction and then a bus driver and mechanic at South Seneca. In the 1980’s he became a real estate agent, and later a broker in his own business, Vangalio Real Estate. He was a member of the FL Board of Realtors, and in 1994, the Realtor of the Year. As a 27 year member of the Ovid Fire Department, he was a truck captain and 2nd assistant chief. For more than 16 years, he and Michele hosted 43 foster children through Seneca County DSS, Jim also served as the Ovid Town Clerk for 20 years.   Jim enjoyed showing his 1965 Ford Falcon, for which he received many awards.

im is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Michele; and his children, Harland Kent, Lisa (Lee Benjamin) Vangalio, Vincent (Jamie) Vangalio, Staci (Martin) Hooker all of Ovid, Brian (Kayla Plante) Kuhlman of Red Creek and Tracy (Chris Dresser) Andrews of Interlaken; his grandchildren, Jade and Chelsea Parson, Grace and Hayden Benjamin, Lucas, Zackary and Addilyn Hooker, Skylar Howard, Emily, Alyssa and Toni Vangalio, Derek Andrews, McKenzie Dresser, and Brian Kuhlman Jr.; his sister, Patty (Dean) Arcangeli  and their family and his mother in law, Julie Byrne of Auburn, along with his wife’s extended family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, by a son, Anthony Vangalio and by his father in law, James Byrne.
