Frances M. (Carpenter) Harris

OVID- Frances M. Harris, age 80, lifetime resident of the Ovid area, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022.

Fran was born on December 24, 1941, a daughter of the late Fayette and Dorothy (nee Keavney) Carpenter, and a graduate of Ovid Central School. She was married to Bill Harris in September of 1962 and worked at Willard State Hospital.  She then moved to a career at the credit union in Willard, and retired from there as the branch manager, a position she held for many years. Fran and Bill spent many winters in Cocoa Beach, FL and she was an avid golfer, enjoyed  lunches out with her friends, birdwatching and the boundless views from her home on the shore of Cayuga Lake, a home that hosted many family events and holiday meals. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and was so proud to tell you about them. She loved watching them grow into adults, her love for them was never ending.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa and Marty Brewer of Ovid; her grandchildren, Sarah Brewer and Michael Lorka of Saratoga Springs, and Matthew Brewer and Courtney Trudeau of Albany; her sister, Sandy Jager of Romulus, and brothers, Steve Carpenter of Geneva and John (Kay) Carpenter of Willard, as well as an extended family near and far. Fran was preceded in death by her husband Bill and son Billy and by sisters, Margie and Helen.

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid from 11:00 am to 1:00pm on Friday, November 11, 2022. A scripture service will then follow at 1:00pm, officiated by Fr. Bernard Maloney OFMCap of Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish. Prayers of committal will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.
