S.William “Bill” Ritchie, age 76, of 3488 State Route 96A and longtime resident of Romulus, died on Sunday August 27, 2023 at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Bill was born in Romulus on December 3, 1946, the only son of the late Seward and Martha (nee Hoaglan) Ritchie. He was a graduate of Ovid High School and served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era from 1967-1969. He returned home and began a long career at the Romulus Highway Department, following in his father’s footsteps. He retired as the longstanding Highway Superintendent after more than 30 years in that office. He was a life member of the South Seneca Sportsmen’s Club, Ovid American Legion, Seneca County Highway Superintendent’s Assoc., formerly the Ovid-Willard Lions Club. Bill had served as a Romulus Councilman for a number of years and worked in the South Seneca Schools transportation department following his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce E. Ritchie; their children, Amy Lott of Interlaken and Brian “Scott” (Amy) Bastian of Auburn, and his sons, Scott (Jaymi) Ritchie of Alabama and John Ritchie of Georgia; grandchildren, Mason Lott, Jordan, Colby and Heidi Bastian and Cody Ritchie; his niece Michelle Cantando and Jeff (Cheryl) Hurd. Bill was preceded in death by is sisters, Linda Hurd and Sandy Ritchie.
Private services with military honors will be held at NYS Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes in Romulus. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Bill’s memory to Interlaken Kitchen Cupboard, PO Box 335, Interlaken, NY 14847.
