Simone Marie Swanson formerly of Ovid, NY passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Le Mans France at the age of 101.
Simone was born on June 28, 1922 in Lassay-les-Chateau, France, a daughter of the late Emile and Augustine Boudier. Simone received a Bachelor of Secondary Education from University of Caen, France in 1941. After receiving her degree Simone taught elementary classes at Coudrecieux, France (1942– 1945). After the war Simone taught elementary classes in Aillieres-Beauvoir till her departure for the United States. Simone received her American citizenship in April, 1956. After the passing of her husband, Delmar Swanson, Simone pursued a college degree receiving a Bachelor of Arts from William Smith College in 1968 and a Master of Science in Education from SUNY Cortland in 1973. Simone taught French at Newfield Central School and at South Seneca Central School. During her time at South Seneca School the 1972 senior class dedicated the yearbook to Simone. Simone retired from the John Norris Clinic at the Rochester Psychiatric Hospital as an Occupational Therapist. Upon her retirement Simone returned to France to care for her mother. Simone loved to travel throughout Europe and the United States. Simone enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and many other crafts.
Simone is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Brian Stiglmeier) Swanson and Phyllis (Brian) Schirano; grandchildren, Aaron Schirano and Matthew (Jessica) Schirano; one great-granddaughter Emerson Schirano and many family and friends in the United States and France. In addition to her parents, Simone was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Swanson; in-laws, Edwin and Cora Swanson; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Lenard Swanson and sister Aline Boudier.
