Gary B. Ike, age 79, longtime area resident, died at Seneca Nursing & Rehab on Sunday, (Feb 16th) following a brief illness. The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Friday, (Feb 21st) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A memorial service will then be held at the funeral home at 1:00. Interment with military honors will be held at Lake View Cemetery in the Spring. Gary was born in Cortland, NY on January 17, 1935, a son of the late Bernal and Lucille (Underwood) Ike. At the age of 20, he joined the US Army and proudly served his country for nearly 3 years during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as a truck driver with Agwayfor more than 20 years, and then spent several years at Parker-Hannifin in Lyons, working as a custodian. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Helene and his children; Jeanette (Walt) Powers of Manlius, Annette (John) Slaski of Owasco, Alan (Kelly) Ike, Brian (Pat) Ike, and Dawn Ike all of Seneca Falls, Gary (Jenny) Ike of Auburn and Delores (Harry) Morgan of Seneca Falls, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and his siblings; Bruce (Rose) Ike and Pam Kirk all of Waterloo, Avis Kissel of Willard and Judy (Sandy Doane) Rosbaugh of Ovid. Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Ike and siblings; Patricia Stevens, Joanne Hayes, Donna Dobbs, Sharon Hoffarth, Kay Veeder, Mahlon and Jack Ike.
