David R. Coryell, age 83, lifetime resident of the area, died at Strong Memorial Hospital on Sunday, June 22, 2025, following a brief hospitalization.

David was born in Waterloo on January 7, 1942, the only son of the late Gordon and Evelyn (nee Waugh) Coryell. He was a graduate of Romulus High School and then enlisted in the US Navy, serving on the USS Shangri-La until his discharge in 1964. David had a long career as a union elevator mechanic, a member of the IUEC Local #62 of Syracuse, retiring in 2002.

David was fiercely independent and held strong in his beliefs and convictions. He was a volunteer of the Ovid Federated Church, assisting with many projects and stayed on the fringe of events, always offering quiet support. David was also a long-time volunteer of the Kendaia Cemetery, where many of his ancestors are buried.

David is survived by his children, Lee (Shelly) Coryell of Phelps and Cathy Coryell of Liverpool; a stepdaughter, Lalania Garner-Winter; his grandchildren; Julia (Glen) Stevenson, Anna (Benjamin) Cosh, Maverick Coryell, Caitlyn Coryell and Diarmuid O’Cealliagh; his sisters; Mary (Gary) Sabin of Farmington; and Joann Niemeyer of Galway. He was preceded in death by his wife, Heidi in 2023.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Ovid Federated Church 7137 Main St. Ovid, NY.
