Glenn A. White

Glenn A. White, age 94, died at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY, on October 18, 2025. Glenn was born in Lodi, NY on April 3, 1931, the third of eight children to George and Laura (nee Locke) White. He grew up in a challenging family environment and persevered, completing high school and being a multi-sport athlete and an outdoorsman. He graduated from Ovid High School in 1950 and started work at the Seneca Army Depot. In 1952, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps working in aviation ordnance during the Korean War. When honorably discharged, he returned to Seneca Army Depot in 1954 and started down his career path as a Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammunition Surveillance) (QASAS) for the Department of Defense. He married Doris Anderson of Caywood, NY in May of 1957 and raised a family. Over the next 35 years, Glenn had duty assignments all over the world. Highlights included tours in California, Vietnam during the war, Italy, Hawaii, and being an instructor at the QASAS school at Savanna Army Depot in Illinois. His career came full circle with a transfer back to Seneca Army Depot as Chief of QASAS there. He retired from federal service in August of 1989 and returned with Doris to the family farm on Seneca Lake. Their post-retirement return as year-round residents allowed them to fully re-engage with old friends, volunteering at the library and historical society, and other various activities in the Lodi community. Glenn revived farm operations in Caywood that he continued for another 25 years, cutting hay and raising sheep and cattle. He continued hunting and had a keen interest in the wildlife of the area. The farm and Seneca lakefront continued to be favorite destinations of family and friends. Hosting these reunions and gatherings were highlights of their retired lives. Later in life, Glenn enjoyed cutting the grass and shooting the bull at the diner, the VFW, or American Legion in Ovid. He had lunch at the Ginny Lee Café almost daily and everyone knew him and his favorite glass of wine. At every sunset, he was content sitting on the porch as the master of his domain, overlooking the farm and lake.

Glenn is survived by his four sons: Jonathan (Janeil), Jeffrey, William (Kelly), and Robert; and four grandsons: Jacen, Jackson, Zachary and Jeremy. He was preceded in death by Doris, his loving wife of 60 years, and siblings Gerald, Merle, Donald, Helen Lewin, and Verna. He is also survived by sister Jean McWhorter and brother Norman.

A gathering to celebrate Glenn’s life will be held at a future date that will be shared by the family later.
