Gloria Orealea Pinette, age 86, of Ovid, was reunited with her beloved husband and placed in the arms of her Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 6:00pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7231 Main Street, Ovid. A celebration of her life will follow at the Ovid VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Gloria’s memory to kindly consider Mary Mother of Mercy, Attn: Holy Cross Church, PO Box 403, Interlaken, New York 14847.
Gloria was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 25, 1939, a daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Adams) Spencer. A self proclaimed “Navy Brat,” she had many adventures as a child with her family before settling in Connecticut. Gloria met her beloved husband, Joseph and after he was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base the Pinette family built their home and remained in the Ovid area. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend and was known to many in the community as “Momma Pinette.”
Gloria was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and enjoyed doing puzzle books. She was the embodiment of love, warmth, and quiet strength for all that knew her. She taught us the importance of kindness, faith, and finding joy in the simple things and there was always room in her heart for one more. Her laughter, love, red lipstick, and hugs will be missed more than words can express. Although her absence leaves us with many broken hearts, we rejoice in knowing that she is now pain-free and resting in the arms of her Lord.
Gloria is survived by her children, Frank (Ann) Pinette, Henry (Brenda) Pinette, Christine (Luke) VanVleet, Marie Brodnicki, Paul Pinette, Laura Morris, and Theresa Pinette; son in law, Larry Westervelt; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and siblings, Dave Spencer, Sheila Craig, Dan Spencer, and John Spencer. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her devoted best friends, Joy VanOrden for always being there for Gloria.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; daughter, Lisa Westervelt; son, Peter Pinette; granddaughter, Amanda Westervelt; and siblings, Jim Spencer and Margaret Latina.
