James H. Morby

James Howard "Jim"  Morby, 83, of Lodi, New York, passed away on August 12, 2026.

He was born on October 4, 1942, in Evanston, Illinois, to Howard and Louise Morby. He graduated from Evanston Township High School and went on to attend McKendree College where he met Karen, his wife of 59 years. He later earned a master's degree in education from Illinois State University. Jim and Karen both became teachers and raised their three children in Peoria, Illinois. Jim spent 33 years teaching in Peoria School District 150.

After retiring, Jim and Karen moved to Seneca Lake full time, building their home on the site of Karen's family cottage near Lodi Point. Jim loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting and spending time afield with his dogs. He loved to joke with those around him and was always ready to have a good time. Some of his happiest times were spent at the lake surrounded by family and friends.

In addition to his wife Karen, Jim is survived by their three children, their families, extended family and many friends. His son Joshua Morby and his wife Rosemary live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with their daughters, Lillian, Lauren and Violet. His daughter Sarah Chicone and her husband Vincent live in Montour Falls, New York with their daughters, Ella and Loretta. His daughter Elizabeth Dirlam and her husband Aaron live in Chicago, Illinois with their children, Margaret, Isabelle and Zachary.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Louise Morby, his sister Carolyn Morby and his grandson William James Morby.

Jim's life will be remembered through the family he raised, the relationships he built and the many memories he leaves with those who knew and loved him. His family takes comfort in knowing that God welcomed him with open arms.

The family will be present to receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00am at the funeral home.
