James A. Zammett, age 75, of Ovid, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the Hospeace House in Naples.
Born on August 30, 1950, Jim was a son of the late John and Agnes (Steen) Zammett. Jim graduated from South Seneca High School before starting a career as a cook at Willard Psychiatric Center. Jim went on to work at Elmira Psychiatric Center before ultimately retiring from the Willard Drug Treatment Center after 37 and a half years of service.
Beyond his career, Jim found great enjoyment in playing horseshoes, proudly representing the Interlaken Sportsmen's Club. His love of the outdoors extended to fishing and hunting. Perhaps one of his most tender routines involved walking his beloved dog, Daisy, around Ovid—moments that reflected his gentle spirit and deep appreciation for simple pleasures.
Jim is survived by his children, Anthony (Lynette) Zammett, Holly (Andrew) Hirons, and Nicholas (Holly Mikkelsen) Zammett; several grandchildren; and brother, Ricky (Teresa Church) Zammett. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Zammett; and his sister, Ann Bond.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 15, 2026 at St. James Cemetery, 95 Hector Street in Trumansburg.
