Julie V. McComb

Julie V. McComb, age 80, passed away on Saturday August 22, 2026 at Cayuga Nursing Rehab Center. Born in Penn Yan on June 2, 1946, she was the daughter of Eugene F. and Florence M. Hagerman. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1964. She then attended State University College at Geneseo where she earned both bachelor's and master’s degrees in speech education and communication theory. Having taught high school for several years, she then married Russel McComba and settled in Ovid. While living in Ovid, she wrote for the Ovid Gazette for eight years, substitute taught and volunteered at the Ovid VFW where she spent five years interviewing Vietnam Veterans to write a booklet of poems in their home called “Veterans of Home”. Her favorite activities were hosting family dinners, singing, playing guitar and teaching. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russel in 2020, and by her brother, Robert Hagerman. She is survived by her brother, Richard Hagerman of Virginia, four stepchildren; Douglas (Lolita) McComb of Trumansburg, Kelly McComb and Carole McComb of Canandaigua and Lisa Kinney of Geneseo; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid, prayers of committal will follow at NYS Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes in Romulus. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Ovid VFW or American Legion.
