Kenyon R. Alexander, age 77, passed away at his Poplar Beach home on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Kenny was born in Ithaca on August 19, 1947, a son of the late Robert and Jean (nee Margeson) Alexander. The family lived in the Fall Creek Neighborhood, and for a lifetime considered himself a “Cricker”. He loved any and all sports, Little League to Pittsburg Pirates. He grew up at the Y where he excelled at wrestling and swimming. He graduated in 1965 from Ithaca High School, he served 7 years in the USAF, stationed in England, Guam and many TDY assignments, specializing in Electronic Counter Measures. Travel increased his sports exposure, and he followed Formula 1 and The Hotspurs. After discharge he attended TC3 and then graduated from SUNY Cortland, majoring in Political Science which he loved to “discuss” with anyone. He served as the 1st Chairman of the Romulus Planning Board when the Seneca Army Depot closed. Kenny began work at Milliken station while in college that led to a long career at NYSEG, retiring as a Senior Analyst. He was a Life Member of the Elks Ithaca Lodge.
Kenny was married to Marlene “Tic” Steuber in 1995, and they made their home on Cayuga Lake in Romulus, while also spending winters in New Smyrna Beach for nearly 20 years. On Poplar Beach, he enjoyed Grampa Camp, boating and mowing but not Flotilla. Both in Florida and NY, he golfed as much as he could, at as many courses he could, as long as it wasn't an early tee time. A member of the SFCC for many years, he enjoyed Thursday League and after he retired, his regular Saturday groups. It was the golf buddies, in NY and Florida that meant as much to him as the golf itself. Kenny is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughters, Kristy Lynn Alexander of Trumansburg, Cari (Joseph) Holcomb-Anderson of Woodlands, TX and Heather (Jeremy Northrop) Alexander of Canandaigua; his grandchildren, Jonas Puryear, Tyler Northrop, Emmah Chambers and Graham Alexander-Northrop; his siblings, Martin L. (Grace) Alexander of Anaheim, CA and Marcia (George) Bakouris of King Ferry; a nephew, Robert K. (Catherine) Alexander of California and a niece, Mary K. (Joseph) Delaney of Shortsville.
The family would like to thank the excellent care Ken received from the VA teams in NY and Florida, but most especially Dr Valencia and Dr Kenney from Strong. We had him 5 years beyond what we thought and, in the end, he was able to go to our Lord the way he wanted.
A service with military honors will be held at NYS Veterans Cemetery in Romulus on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 1:00pm, a reception will follow at Ovid VFW. Kindly consider a donation in Kenny’s memory to VFW Post 6200, PO Box 1, Ovid or Pathway Home, 1529 Mound Road, Seneca Falls, NY 13145.
