Madeleine Grace Adams Brooks

d. June 10, 2026

Boston, Massachusetts

Madeleine Grace Adams Brooks, a bright light to all she encountered, passed away on June 10th, 2026. Those who knew her remember her huge smile, her spirit of hospitality, and her insistence on getting things right. As a child, she was the one directing the other kids in dance and choral recitals, organizing her sister Charlotte’s birthday parties and everyone’s schedules.

After graduating from Geneva High School in 2007, she enrolled at the University of Rochester. Being the extrovert in a family of introverts, Maddy called home declaring, “I belong in college!” She graduated with her sweetheart, Matt Holmes, in 2011, and went on to advance in the world of retail management, moving from GAP and Athleta to opening stores for Everlane. Tiring of the constant on-call nature of those jobs, she pivoted to working in H.R. for biotech company Monte Rosa Therapeutics in Boston, where she thrived on-boarding new employees and helping to nurture the social side of the company.

Maddy loved sitting out in the sun with a book, especially in Eagles Mere, PA, getting a new colorful outfit, having a dirty martini with friends, looking up and trying new recipes with her husband, and hosting a get together at any opportunity, but particularly for a Celtics game. Most of all, she loved people: making them happy, comfortable, included, and championed.

In addition to her husband Matt Holmes of Boston, MA, and sister Charlotte Adams Brooks of Wethersfield, CT, Maddy is survived by her father Douglas Brooks (Susan) of Bloomfield, NY; mother, Lesley Adams (David Newman) of Trumansburg, NY; stepsiblings Eliza, Val and Hank (Molly) Newman of Trumansburg, NY; grandmother, Virginia Adams of Cambridge, MA; aunts Gretchen Adams (Rob Hayes) and Nancy Adams (Slavco Sokolovski) of Cambridge, MA; aunt Christine Brooks (Randy Scott) of New Jersey; mother-in-law Carole Holmes of Manchester, CT; sister-in-law Jillian Holmes of Jefferson, NH; her cousins, and many dear friends.

A celebration of her life will take place later in the summer, her favorite time of year, which will be announced by her family

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Maddy’s memory to the Moments That Matter Fund at AmysAngels.org, or any cause bringing light and life to the world.
