Marcia C. Bennett

Marcia A. Bennett, age 79, formerly of Ovid, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Schuyler Hospital on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Marcia was born in Rochester, NY on May 3, 1947, a daughter of the late Henry and Helen (nee Case) Miller. She was a 1965 graduate of Waterloo High School and worked at Willard Psychiatric Center for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. Marcia served her community in many ways; a Brownie Troop leader, election inspector and a welcomed visitor to many elderly members of the community. Perhaps her greatest contribution and certainly her legacy, is to that of her lifelong commitment to the Order of the Eastern Star. She rose through the ranks of many chapters, even to the title of District Grand Matron, representing several counties and serving as a representative to the state of Idaho. Her affiliation with the OES guided her strong values of community, faith and love of God, citizenry, patriotism and kindness.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jimmie L. Bennett of Hector; her children, Henry (Loretta) Bennett and Todd Bennett all of Lodi, Erin (Michael) Updyke of Gorham; grandchildren, Laura (John) Beeching, Nariah (Matthew) Swank, Mason (Abbey) Bennett, Audi (Landon) Sousa, Andre and Lily Avena, Rebecca and Amanda Bennett and 15 great grandchildren. Marcia was preceded in death by her father, her mother, and stepfather, Elmer Black; her brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Debbie) Miller and sister and brother-in-law, Beverly (Roger) Weir.

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:00am. An O.E.S. ceremony will commence at 11:00am followed by a memorial service led by Rev. Judy Peppard. Interment at NYS Veteran’s Cemetery-Finger Lakes will take place at 1:00pm.
