Martha “Marty” M. Troutman, age 98, of Ovid, New York and Littleton, Colorado passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026. She was born in Interlaken, New York on December 15, 1927, to Archie and Pleasa (Dimmick) Westervelt. She was the youngest of five children.
Marty graduated from Interlaken High School and upon graduation became a civil employee of the US Navy at Sampson Naval Base in Romulus, New York. She met her lifelong partner and husband, Bob, shortly thereafter. Bob and Marty shared a wonderful 58 years together raising a family, building a home, working for the State of New York, traveling and most importantly…dancing. She loved to square dance and spent many winters in Florida with friends from all over the country, doing just that. She and Bob were the perfect snowbirds.
She was a nurse at Willard State Hospital for over thirty years. Despite her small frame, she earned a reputation as “Sarg” at that psychiatric facility. Marty was an avid gardener, and she would spend endless hours during the spring and summer tending to her gardens. Neighbors would occasionally have to come by at dusk to remind her to take a break, because the flowers would still be there in the morning.
She had moved to Denver for the last six years, to live with her son. While there she was able to enjoy the company of the grandchildren and six great grandchildren that lived in Colorado. She was so proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren scattered across the country and loved to follow them once she mastered the internet at the age of 90.
Marty was preceded in death by her husband Bob and sons Dennis and Jim. She is survived by sons Jack of Denver, CO, Gary (Collette) of Charlotte, NC and Dan (Andrea) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; seven grandchildren and a multitude of great and great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services for the family will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 24th at Ovid Union Cemetery.
