Daniel Motill, age 78, Community Leader and Artist, of Ovid, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Geneva General Hospital.
The family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Covert Funeral Home of Ovid. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Holy Cross Church in Ovid
Dan was born on August 9, 1937 in Edwardsville, PA. He graduated from Bucknell University with a Master's Degree in Engineering. Had a very successful career with IBM retiring after 29 years to devote more time to his painting. Dan's love for the beauty and history of the Finger Lakes Region inspired him to become active and very instrumental in the community including the Romulus Education Foundation, Holy Cross Church restoration, preservation of the Three Bears historical landmark, Ovid-Willard Lions Club and Holy Cross Church Cemetery.
Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Shymanski and their three children and spouses, Pamela Berstler of Florham Park, NJ; Daniel & Isabel Motill, Jr. of Spring, TX and David & Marianne Motill of Ridgefield, CT; Four Grandchildren, Samantha and Spencer Berstler Emily and Colin Motill and a very large, loving extended family.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to "The Three Bears," PO Box 75, Ovid or to the Holy Cross Cemetery Fund, PO Box 337, Ovid, NY 14521.
