Nancy I. (Robinson) Jacot Canniff

January 2, 1934 — October 23, 2023

Lodi

Nancy I. Jacot Canniff, age 89, longtime resident of 8252 Neely Road, died on Monday, October 23, 2023, surrounded by family at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY.

Born in Ellsworth, Maine on January 2, 1934, a daughter to Lawrence and Marjorie (nee Hamblen) Robinson. She grew up on Mount Desert Island in the town of Southwest Harbor, Maine. Nancy graduated from Pemetic High School in June of 1952, was married, and had three children. She and her family moved to Ovid in 1953 and settled in Lodi in 1956.  Nancy married James Canniff on July 30, 1969, and they were the light of each other’s lives until his passing on February 24, 2006. She worked at Willard Psychiatric Center and earned her degree in occupational therapy from University of Buffalo in 1977 and continued to work as an OT until her retirement in 1989.  She and Jim became snowbirds and spent winters in Jensen Beach, Florida.

Nancy had been a member of the Lodi Fire Department Auxiliary and a Girl Scout Leader. She had 3 jobs that she loved in her lifetime: that of an occupational therapist at Willard from 1958 to 1989; second, as a 30-year volunteer (of which 20 years she was the director) at the South Seneca Ecumenical Food Pantry, loving every minute by helping others and getting to visit with the staff of volunteers; third and most importantly, the “job” of being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her home was always open to her family and was the hub of all family gatherings for birthdays, holidays, and everything in between.

She is survived by her sons; George “Skip” (Nancy) Jacot and Rick (Judy) Jacot both of Lodi; her sister, Joan Terry of Southwest Harbor, Maine; her stepchildren, Andrew (JoAnne) Canniff and Jeff (Janice) Canniff; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2006, her daughter, Robin in 1999, her daughter-in-law, Agnes in 2009 and her grandsons, Stephen M. Jacot in 1977 and  Fritz Veeder in 2020, and step-grandson, Andy John Canniff.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 30, 2023; at Ovid Federated Church, officiated by Pastor Rob Mellgard. Prayers of committal will be held privately at West Lodi Cemetery.
