With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Rhea V. Jones, who entered this world on December 21 in Rochester, born to Charles Kelsey and Virginia Goodell. She peacefully departed on February 21, 2026, at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center, surrounded by the love she so freely gave to others throughout her life.
She leaves behind the love of her life, her devoted husband of nearly 55 years, Ralph Jones, whose partnership was a testament to enduring love and friendship. She is also survived by her cherished sisters, Marylois Schott and Bonnie Pierce; her loving children, Jennifer (George) Muzzy, Jason (Melissa) Jones, and Jeffery Jones; and her treasured grandchildren, Mikayla Fuller, Kelsey Muzzy, Marlea Jones, Elisabeth Rosbaugh-Cornish, Kazandra Jones, Mariisa Arnold, and Damyan Arnold. Each of them was a light in her life, and she poured boundless pride and affection into every moment spent with them. Rhea was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her dear brothers: Ford “Skip”, Lyle, Jim, and Charles Kelsey. Though she mourned their loss deeply, she carried their memory with strength and grace.
A longtime resident of Ovid, Rhea built a life rooted in community, compassion, and connection. She formed lasting friendships and touched countless lives with her warmth and sincerity. She dedicated many years of service to Willard Psychiatric Center until its closing in 1995 and then continued her career with the Finger Lakes DDSO until her retirement. Her work reflected her heart — steadfast, caring, and deeply committed to helping others. Rhea was known for her gentle spirit and her unwavering kindness. She spoke well of everyone she met and offered help wherever it was needed. Whether volunteering at the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library or delivering food pantry supplies to neighbors in need, she quietly and faithfully served her community. She was a friend to all and a mother and grandmother not only to her own family, but to many who were blessed to know her.
Rhea’s absence leaves an immeasurable void — not only within her family, but throughout the community she loved so dearly. Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and unconditional love will live on in the countless lives she touched.
The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from Noon to 2:00pm, a memorial service will then follow at 2:00pm officiated by Pastor Rob Mellgard of Ovid Federated Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to support the local community she cared so deeply about, continuing her spirit of giving and neighborly love.
