Robert S. Zemanek Jr.

Robert S. Zemanek Jr., known to many as Bob, passed away on August 2, 2026, in Montour Falls, NY, following a brief admission to the hospital and skilled nursing. Born on November 21, 1942, in Johnson City, NY, Bob's life spanned more than eight decades, marked by professional dedication, steadfast character, and deep devotion to family.

A high school graduate with two years of college, Bob began his adult journey with service in the US Army where he served as a correspondent in Korea for Stars and Stripes. Following his discharge in 1966, he transitioned to a civilian career with the Department of Defense, a path that ultimately led him to the Seneca Army Depot, where he served as the public affairs officer until his retirement. This role was more than just a job—it exemplified his professionalism and his ability to command respect through both his presence and his actions.

The direction of Bob's career moved him and his family across various locales. Serving as the public affairs officer at SEAD, he was awarded the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, in working with the global media regarding the anti-nuclear protests. Demonstrating both commitment to family and flexibility, he and his wife later moved to California to support her career interests after his own retirement.

Bob was widely recognized for his stoic yet disarming demeanor. He commanded a presence not only through his stature but also through his integrity, professionalism and with a wry smile. Beyond this exterior, those close to him experienced his kindness and supportive nature, qualities that endeared him to friends and colleagues alike.

Among all his accomplishments, Bob was most proud of his 55-year marriage to his beloved wife, Claudia Maxsom, and his enduring pride in his son, Robert Zemanek III. Bob's commitment to his family was unwavering, and his support formed the cornerstone of their lives together. He is survived by Claudia; his son, Robert; and Breana, who held a special place in his extended circle and by his sisters; Karen Byers of Idaho, Candice Johlin of Ohio; a sister-in-law, Susan Seal of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his brother, David Seal.

Bob's legacy continues through the lives he touched—his family, his colleagues, and his friends. His career, character, and commitment to those he loved will long be remembered with respect and admiration.

Military honors will be held at NYS Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes, at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The family will then host a reception at the Ginny Lee Café in Lodi from 12:00 to 2:00pm.
