W. Betzler Phyllis

Phyllis Wickes Betzler, age 79, of Interlaken passed into Eternity on May 3, 2018 at her apartment at Ferris Hills in Canandaigua.

She was born October 23, 1938 to Charles Jay Wickes and Dorothy Haviland Wickes. Phyllis graduated in 1956 from Interlaken Central School and in 1960 from the University of Buffalo School Of Pharmacy. She was a fourth generation pharmacist; her great grandfather Silas R. Wickes had a drugstore in Trumansburg, her grandfather, George V. Wickes opened the drugstore in Interlaken which was continued by her father Charles, who graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1931. Phyllis worked with her father until they sold the store in 1976.

After retiring from pharmacy, Phyllis did a lot of volunteer work, the most significant being director of the Interlaken Food Pantry for 35 years. Phyllis enjoyed Cayuga Lake from childhood, camping in the Adirondacks, 27 trips to Nantucket with her mother and Naomi Brewer, and playing bridge.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Robert; and three cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one cousin.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 19, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Interlaken Reformed Church with Rev. David Leonard officiating.
