Avis D. Kissell, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in the comfort of her granddaughter’s home in Ovid.
Burial will be held privately for the family and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Avis was born in Cortland on April 14, 1945, a daughter of the late Bernal and Lucille (Underwood) Ike. She worked for over 30 years at Willard Psychiatric Center as a cook and dietician. A loving mother and grandmother, Avis opened her heart unconditionally and was willing to help anyone in need. She loved to sing, especially to her beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, James Kissell Jr., Shawn Kissell, Melanie (Keith) Champion, Susan (Bill) Buchel, and Tanya (Greg) Mayo; six grandchildren, Nichole, Elizabeth, Andrew, Amber, Stephanie, and Anna; three great grandchildren, Tommy, Xander, and Finnegan; sisters, Pam Kirk and Judy (Sandy Doane) Rosbaugh; brother, Bruce Ike; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Avis was preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Stevens, Joanne Hayes, Kay Wheeler, Donna Hood, Sharon Holford, Mahlon, Jack, and Gary Ike.
