Betty Baker Obituary

Betty J. Baker, age 78, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at FF Thompson Hospital, after a hard fight with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid.  Prayers of committal will be held at Ovid Union Cemetery and a reception will be hosted at the Ovid Federated Church.  Kindly consider a donation in Betty’s memory to the South Seneca Ecumenical Food Pantry, c/o Ovid Federated Church, PO Box 340, Ovid, NY 14521.

Betty was born on April 26, 1944 in Seneca Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Earl Terry and the late Beatrice (nee Doane) Terry Greenwalt. She was a graduate of the Ovid High School class of 1962. She was married to the late Edson W. Baker of Romulus on August 16, 1962. Betty owned and operated Terry’s Tastee Freez, later named Rt 96 Diner for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Sons of Union Veterans Auxiliary and held offices on the local, state, and national levels of which she proudly served as President at the State and National level. Betty spent many years working at the South Seneca Ecumenical Food Pantry as a volunteer and director. She was involved in numerous committees at the Ovid Federated Church.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Terry (Wendell) Moore of Ovid, NY and Connie (John) Lucas of Aberdeen, MD; grandchildren, Tammy (Eric) Sloughter, Ninja DeParde, Steven (Jamee) Lucas, and Eric Lucas; son in law, Brian Niver;  her great grandchildren, Mathew Moore, Ryleigh Sloughter, Calla Schmeer, Auden Schmeer, Allison Morter, Daniel Lucas, Catilin Lucas, Kaedan Lucas, and Mia Lucas; many nieces and nephews; her siblings, James (Pat) Terry of Oklahoma and Beatrice (Joe) Marrone of Ovid, NY and Arizona; and many dear and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Richard Greenwalt; her husband; a son, Eddie; a daughter, Brenda; a sister, Sandy; brothers, David and William; and her business partner and longtime family companion, Michelle Langley.
