Carl B. Murray of Ovid passed away at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the age of 70.
The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 29 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at NYS Veterans Cemetery – FLX, Romulus, NY, formerly Sampson Veteran’s Cemetery. The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Carl’s memory to kindly consider Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River Street, Waterloo, NY 13165.
Carl was born in Ithaca on April 21, 1953, a son of the late John and Phyllis (nee Hazard) Murray. He joined the United States Navy in 1973 which began a 20 year long career with the Navy. After serving his country faithfully, he worked briefly at Lakeside Nursing Home in Ithaca before taking a position at Borg-Warner in Ithaca, where he would stay until retiring in 2019.
Carl was a member of the American Legion Post 463 in Ovid, and Interlaken and South Seneca Sportsmen’s Clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Murray; daughters, Samantha Murray, Michelle (Michael) Bentley, and Annette (Richard) DeCosta; step children, Kenneth (Christina) Sweet, Tammy (Michael) Burton, and David (Yettra) Sweet; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and two brothers, John Murray and Eric Goodman. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Kirk Goodman.
