Frank Delong Jr.

Frank Delong Jr., age 87, passed away at his home on County Road 139 on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

The family will receive friends at the American Legion Post #463 in Ovid on Monday, May 9th from 5:00 to 7:00pm.  Interment will be held privately at Fairview Cemetery in Sheldrake. Frank was born in Ovid on May 29, 1934, the ninth of eleven children to Frank and Cecil (Hilkert) Delong. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1956-1958 and was called back in 1961-1962. Frank was an auto mechanic and trucker most of his life, he self-operated several small businesses, drove truck for Wallace Steel of Ithaca and several trucking companies, and was an owner-operator for Kingsway Trucking. He had been a member of the Ovid American Legion and had been a fixture in several local diners.

He is survived by his 5 children; Liane Delong of Newfield, Norine Jarrell of Ithaca, William “Bill” of Geneva, Ray and Jason of Ovid; his 12 grandchildren, Lauren Dean, Lowell Delong, Shauna Dailey, Desiree Cesario, Jocelyn and Justin Keane, Jasmine, Kaleishia, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Kevin and Courteney Delong, and 6 great grandchildren; his former partner and mother of two of his children, Flay Wiggins; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends Dick Jacot and Howard Porter. Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Marcus, Clyde, Winfield, James and Guy Delong; his sisters Beatrice Rosecrans, Bertha Ferris, Blanche Christensen, Frances Steen and Bernice Coleman; and his former wife and mother of his three oldest children, Joyce Ballardini Personius.
