Russell H. Boettcher, age 93, passed away at his home on November 19, 2020.
A Graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00am on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial contribution in Russell’s memory to American Legion Post 770, PO Box 456, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
Russell was born in Springfield, IL on May 11, 1927, a son of the late Herbert and Elsie (Retoher) Boettcher. Russell joined the United States Army and served during World War II from 1945-1947. He belonged as a lifetime member to American Legion Post #770. He worked for many years as a John Deere mechanic before taking a job at Cornell University where he served as the supervisor of the liquid helium & nitrogen lab. Russell’s true passion was having the best kept and manicured lawn, often helping his neighbors and showing off his leaf sweeper.
He is survived by his children, Renee (Jim) Heroux, Randy Boettcher, Lisa (Paul Sharp) Boettcher and Melanie (Andrew) Garner; six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by his siblings, two sister’s and one brother and his beloved wife Barbara Boettcher in 2002.
