Webb Rankin Obituary

Webb W. Rankin, age 100, longtime resident of Mechanic Street, passed away at the Hospicare Facility in Ithaca on Saturday, November 20, 2021

Webb was born in Interlaken on January 16, 1921, the only son of the late George A. and Gertrude (Dafforn) Rankin. He was a graduate of Interlaken High School class of 1938, Willard School of Nursing in 1943, he then served as a Pharmacist’s Mate in the US Navy during WWII, and completed his BA in Pre-Med at Cornell University in 1950. He had a long career at Willard Psychiatric Center, where he was the acting Director of Nursing at the time of his retirement. He also served as Seneca County coroner for 30 years, and court attendant and bailiff at the Seneca County court house for 25 years. Webb was an avid outdoorsman, having been a life member of both the South Seneca and Interlaken Sportsmen’s clubs; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, fly tying and fishing. He frequently traveled to watch his beloved Yankees with a carload of his buddies. Most importantly, Webb was a loving family man, mentor and honorable man that truly spent his entire life doing the right thing. He recently joined the Smucker’s 100 year old milestone club, as seen on NBC.

He is survived by his loving family;  a daughter, Joan S. Rankin of Crownsville, MD, a son, Kevin (Sherri) Rankin of Winterville, NC; grandchildren, Michael (Connie) Rankin, Danny (Donna) Glembot, Debra (Michael) Haraszkiewicz, Melissa (Jon) Hanson, Eric (Morgan) Ericksen, Cassie (Brendan) Byrnes, Steven Rankin, Emily (Michael) Roy; eight great grandchildren, Cory (Kaitlyn) Glembot, Brittany (Chris) Henley, Dean Haraszkiewicz, Katie Hanson, Kaylee, Bella and Addy Byrnes; two great great grandchildren, Braeden and Addison Henley.  Webb was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Ester Marion Canty Rankin; his daughters, Linda Wyer, Patricia Schafer and her husband, Jim; a sister, Jessie Forbush; companion Pat Robinson and an infant grandson, John Wyer.
