Millard E. “Butch” Meeks Jr., age 60,
of Lodi, had died at his home when checked upon by a friend on
Friday, December 28, 2007.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 4,
2008 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid, officiated by
The Rev. Martha Forisha of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Seneca
Falls. Interment will be held at the Meeks family grave of West Lodi
Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Butch’s
memory may be directed to the Lodi Presbyterian Church, PO Box 278
Lodi, NY 14860 or the charity of one’s choice.
Born January 8, 1947, in Seneca Falls, the youngest of ten children
to the late Millard E. and Eva (Arnold) Meeks Sr. He attended the
Mynderse Academy and began working as a carpenter at a young age,
working for various construction firms over several years. Butch was
an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
Butch is survived by his sister, Barbara (Charlie) Andrus of
Savannah, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his siblings, Elbert, Floyd, Charlie, Theodore, Judy,
Wanda, Rosemary and Archie. |

Malcolm E. Posey, age 52
of Ovid, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 26, 2007
following a short cancer illness.
Malcolm was born on July 27, 1955 in Washington, DC, a son of
Richard M. and Eileen E. (Jennings) Posey. He had worked as a
computer programmer for NASA in Washington, and then taught in the
public school system of Montgomery County, Maryland. Following an
early retirement, he and his family followed their dream, and moved
to Upstate NY, and made their home in Ovid. He continued teaching on
a substitute level for Ovid, Trumansburg and Ithaca Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda K. Posey, and their four young
sons, Benjamin Z., Jonah C., Julian G., and Henry L. Posey all at
home in Ovid, his father, Richard M. Posey, siblings, Estella
Churchman, Charles Posey, and Donna Albrecht, numerous nieces and
nephews, his mother in law, Nancy Erickson, sister in law, Nicole
Romero, and his brother in law, Robert Erickson. Malcolm was
preceded in death by his mother, Eileen.
The family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Friday, (Dec
28) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. A Celebration of
Malcolm’s life will be held at the Seneca Community Church in
Romulus at 2pm on Saturday.

John G. Sorensen, age 77
of Willard, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2007 as a result of
injuries sustained in an auto accident in the Town of Covert.
The family will receive friends from 11am to Noon on Saturday, (Dec
29) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid, where a funeral
service will be held at Noon, officiated by Pastor Nissa Deibler of
the Zion Lutheran Church in Geneva. Interment at the Hillside
Cemetery in Dundee will be delayed until Spring.

John was born in Penn Yan, on June 2, 1930, a son of the late John
and Astrid (Neilsen) Sorensen. He graduated from High School in Penn
Yan and began a long career in the trucking industry. After many
years as a local driver, he worked as a safety supervisor and
terminal manager in Scranton, PA for the former Penn Yan Express. He
then drove for T & D Trucking for more than 10 years. John was an
avid outdoorsman, and supporter of sportsmen’s activities. He was a
member of the NRA, and an active member of the South Seneca
Sportsmen’s Club, representing the Club in numerous competitions.
John had also been an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in
Geneva. He proudly nurtured his family, his home, and his love of
nature.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary-Ruth (Weeks)
Sorensen, his children; Constance (James) Fraboni of Riverview, FL,
John E. (Lorrie J.) Sorensen of Newark, NY and Kristina (David)
Wight of Ithaca, NY, 8 grandchildren, and a brother, Peter (Betty)
Sorensen of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a son, Harry W.
Sorensen and a sister, Nancy Long |

Frances I. Huff, age 80
of Lodi, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 22, 2007.
Fran was born April 21, 1927 in Elmira, NY a twin daughter of the
late John S. and Vera L. (Mitchell) MacDonald. She moved from
Horseheads to Lodi more than 60 years ago. She had been employed by
Willard Psychiatric Center for more than 35 years, retiring as a
therapy aide in 1983. Fran was an avid reader and found great
interest in genealogy and knitting. She took a keen interest in her
community and the people and events that surrounded her. Fran
treasured the time she spent with her family.
Fran was a twin, who had twin grandsons and just this year, became a
great grandmother to a set of twin boys.
She is survived by her children, John (Ginger) Huff of Edwardsville,
IL, Michael (Darlene) Huff of Lodi, and Vanlon (John) Keel of
Romulus, her twin sister, Phyllis (James) Joslyn, of Willard, and a
sister, Joan (Joseph) Hudak of Temple, GA, 13 grandchildren, 12
great grandchildren, nieces and a nephew. Her husband, Halsey C.
Huff, preceded Fran in death.
A private graveside burial will be held at the West Lodi Cemetery.

Stanley F. Maleski,
92,
ofRomulus, passed peacefully at home on Saturday (December 15, 2007)
following a brief illness.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7pm on Tuesday (Dec 18) at
Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street
in Ovid. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on
Wednesday (Dec 19) at Holy Cross Catholic Church by Fr. William
Winters, OFMCap. Interment will be at Lake View Cemetery in
Interlaken.

Stanley was
born April 11, 1915 at the family home in Romulus,
a son of the late Matthew and Mary (Skozeski) Maleski. Stanley
worked the family farm in Romulus, taking great pride in his family
heritage and the farming industry.
He was married to Jeanette Creswell on August 17, 1949.
Stanley is
survived by his daughters, Anna M. (Charles) Morgan of Romulus,
Theresa S. (James) MacCheyne of Interlaken, a son, Stanley F.
(Sheila) Maleski Jr. of Trumansburg, his much beloved and adored
granddaughters, Stephanie Rose and Jessica Nicole Maleski, |

Robert L. “Bob” Klemann, age 69,
of 5784 Route 96A, passed away at his home on Tuesday, (Dec. 4)
following a brief cancer illness.
Bob was born on July 20, 1938, a son of the late Frederick and Helen
Klemann. At the young age of 17, he joined the US Navy, serving from
1956 to 1962. He had been a pipe fitter and welder for the Plumbers
and Pipefitters Local Union #13 of Rochester, working in various
types of construction. He and his wife also operated the roadside
produce stand in Kendaia. He was always happy to teach his
grandchildren and all children about his love of hunting and
fishing, as well as tinkering on a dozen projects all at once in his
shop. He was a member of the NRA and the NYS Rifle and Pistol Assoc.
and a Life Member of the MacDougall Sportsmen’s Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his children; Cliff (Debbie)
Klemann of Romulus, Debra E. Klemann of Texas and Patty (Bob)
Bradley of Clifton Springs and Lou (Sherry) Covert of Romulus who
was like a second son to Bob; his grandchildren, Steven, Amanda,
Jonathan, Sara, Tina and Sean and a great grand daughter, Liberty;
his siblings John (Jean) Klemann of Georgia, Theresa (Lou) Ebling of
Florida, Michelle Kemak of Angola, NY, Tom (Debbie) Klemann of
Palmyra, Mike (Linda) Klemann of Newark, Jackie (Jonathan) Everdike,
Janet (Gary) Hamburg, Penny (Greg) Goodman. Bob was preceded in
death by his stepmother, Elsie “Skip” Klemann.
The family received friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Friday, (Dec 7)

reception hosted by the family at the MacDougall Sportsmen’s Club,
3800 MacDougall Road, where friends were invited to stop in to share

Paul James Charles, age 54,
of Newfield, NY, passed away suddenly Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at
his home. Born February 12, 1953 in Ithaca, he was the son of the
late Kenneth H. and Jane Pearl Charles. A 1971 graduate of Ithaca
High School, Paul was proud of having coordinated two "Walks Against
Hunger" while still a high school student.
Following his graduation from the State University at Albany, Paul
worked with troubled youth in Virginia, leading them on wilderness
camping and survival expeditions. In 1985 he returned to Ithaca to
care for his mother during her terminal illness, and subsequently
cared for his father during the last years of his life. While in
Ithaca, Paul served as a volunteer with Loaves and Fishes. A
talented cook, he began a career in food service, in the course of
which he attended the Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts in
Norfolk, Virginia. After several years in North Carolina, Paul moved
back to the Ithaca area earlier this year, fulfilling his wish to
"come home." Paul expressed his creativity through photography and
poetry. His Christian beliefs were central to his life.
Paul is survived by his brother, Mark Charles of Ann Arbor,
Michigan; an aunt, Emily Cooley of Canandaigua; and several cousins.
Special thanks to Joel Rabinowitz, the residents and staff of
Newfield Garden Apartments, and Mrs. Hollister and members of the
First Baptist Church for their kindness to Paul.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 18,
2007, at the First Baptist Church in Ithaca. Friends may also pay
their respects at the church on Monday, December 17, from 7-9 p.m.

Betty was born on March 3, 1926
in Tunkhannock, PA, a daughter of the late Paul C. and Isabelle V (Deats)
Ball. She attended various schools throughout Northeastern
Pennsylvania, and made her home with extended family in Seneca County
as a young wife and mother. She worked at Willard Psychiatric Center
for a short time, but mostly enjoyed harvesting grapes, apples and
strawberries while they were in season. Betty was a devoted wife,
mother and homemaker which lovingly carried over into grandmother.
She is survived by her children; Thomas R. (Sandi) Chambers of Eagle
Point, OR, Carol (John) Myers of Geneva, Sharon L. (Reed Balewski)
Secor of Waterloo, Michael (Caroline) Chambers of Savannah and Linda
(David) Turner of Geneva, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren;
sisters; Alice Ball of Scranton, PA, Helen (Dick) Baxter of Olympia,
WA and Edna Herrick of New Port Richey, FL and a close personal
friend, Jan Marquart. Betty was preceded in death by her husband,

Lloyd Corbin Northrup, age 87
o Ovid, died on Sunday (Dec 2) at the Seneca Nursing & Rehab Center
in Waterloo.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at Mount Green Cemetery in
Romulus. As a memorial to Lloyd, the family would ask you to
consider taking a quiet moment to reflect on the life of their
father and think of the special memories that you may have shared
with him.
Lloyd was born in Victor, NY on April 2, 1920, a son of the late
Corbin H. and Dora M. (Everett) Northrup. He served his country in
the US Army during WWII. Lloyd was dedicated to his service at the
Holy Cross Church, where he spent 42 years as the sexton, caring for
the church buildings, grounds and the cemetery. He spent many years
digging graves by hand when the church did not have power equipment,
rarely deterred by even the winter weather. He felt that everyone
deserved a proper burial, and took great pride in the way in which
it was accomplished. Many will remember him as the crossing guard at
the church as well. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and
gardener, often having gardens in multiple locations.
He is survived by his children; Louise M. Warne, Linda M. (Gary)
Xavier, Laura Arcangeli and Leonard Northrup all of Ovid; grandsons,
Lorne J. Wandell, Brent C. and Nicholas Xavier, Justin Arcangeli and
Scott Northrup. Lloyd was preceded in death by his siblings,
Sherman, Doris, Ruth, Ralph, and Willis “Mickey”.

George J. Wegner, 88,
formerly of Lodi, died October 23 at Lakeside Nursing Home.
Born September 19, 1919 in Owego, NY, George was a son of the late
George H. and Emma Mae (Beechler) Wegner. A veteran of WWII and a
retiree of Cornell University, George's favorite pastimes were
hunting and fishing. He never passed up an opportunity to share the
outdoors with his children or take his grandchildren on a fishing
excursion.
He was a member of the Interlaken Baptist Church and a former member
of the Lodi Sportsmen's Club.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Grant Wegner; a
daughter, Deborah; granddaughter, Nancy; three great-grandchildren,
Steven, Brandon and Brittany; his three sisters and his two
brothers.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Mark) Jackson of Interlaken,
Lana Wegner-Harden of Interlaken, Betty (Hampton) Hathaway of Lodi,
and Karen Peterson of Shippensburg, PA; his son, Robert (Debbie)
Wegner of Trumansburg; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
George's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of
Lakeside Nursing Home for the love and care he received during his
stay.
A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Ralph Selin, will be held at
1 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, at Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg, NY.

Sharon A. Hoffarth, age 68,
of Lower Lake Road in Willard, passed away at the Lifetime Care
Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, on Saturday (Oct
20).
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday (Oct
25) at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.

Cancer Society or the Diabetes Foundation.
Sharon was born in Cortland, NY on September 22, 1939, a daughter of
the late Bernal and Lucille (Underwood) Ike. She returned to
Waterloo from Colorado eight years ago, and worked at Huntington
Living Center as a health care aide, retiring just before her 68th
birthday. Sharon’s greatest joy was her work, she loved her patients
and cared deeply for them. Sharon truly devoted her life to her work
and family.
Sharon is survived by her sons, Ransom and Ralph McBride of
Colorado, stepchildren; Emil and Virta Hoffarth, brothers; Gary
(Helene) Ike of Seneca Falls, Jack Ike of South Carolina, Bruce
(Rose) Ike of Waterloo; sisters, Judith (Sandy Doane) Rosbaugh of
Ovid, Avis Kissell of Willard and Pamela (William) Kirk of Waterloo,
and 7 grandchildren. Sharon was preceded in death by her sons,
Robert and Eugene Hoffarth, her sisters; Patricia Stevens, Joanne
Hayes, Donna Dobbs, Anita “Kay” Veeder, and a brother Mahlon D. Ike.

Fred “Uncle Fred” Gradel, age 46,
of Lampila Road, died unexpectedly at the Arnot Ogden Hospital in
Elmira.
Fred was born in Endicott, NY on June 8, 1961, a son of Ferdinand
and Ruby Gradel. He was a graduate of the Owego Free Academy, and
had been employed as a waiter at the Statler Hotel on the Cornell
University Campus since 1989. Affectionately known as “The Wizard”
by his friends and family, his thirst for knowledge was never
ending. His love of nature, the plants, trees, and flowers that made
up the World around him, gave him great joy everyday.
Fred is survived by his father, Ferdinand R. (Anne Dalconzo) Gradel
of Owego, his mother, Ruby E. Weaver, a sister, Cindy (Rod) Martin
and a brother Tom (Janice) Gradel, nieces, Stephanie and Bethli
Beeman, Desirae, Taylor and Lauren Gradel all of Newfield, his
beloved “children” Magpie and Kitty, and a host of aunts, uncles and
cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 19,
2007 at Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve on
Irish Hill Road in
Newfield. Please dress casually. Following the ceremony a reception
will be hosted by his family at the Newfield Fire Hall. In lieu of

Eldred L. “Buster” McCoy, age 85,
of 8047 Hall Road, died on Sunday, (Oct 7) at Geneva General
Hospital following a very brief illness.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday (Oct 10) from 4-7pm at
Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main St, Ovid. The funeral service will be
held at 2pm on Thursday (Oct 11) at the funeral home officiated by
the Rev. Derek VandeSlunt of the Interlaken Reformed Church.
Interment will be held at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.

Eldred was born in the Town of Covert on May 22, 1922, a son of the
late Otto and Maud (Rallings) McCoy. Upon graduation from the
Interlaken Central School, he proudly served his country in the US
Air Force during WWII, having been stationed in Italy, Africa and
Corsica. Eldred worked as a cook at Willard Psychiatric Center for
37 years, and operated the McCoy family farm in Interlaken.
He is survived by his sister, Edna; sisters in law, Phyllis McCoy
and Lillian Renauld,; nieces and nephews, Sally (Dick) Keenan,
Shirley (Dick) Fox, Nancy (Karl) Chase, Alan (Dawn) McCoy, Mary (Cy)
Snyder, John (Carol) McCoy, Paul (Pat) McCoy, Joann (Carl) Marsh,
Diane, Steve, and Joe McCoy and their families, and several
cousins. Eldred was preceded in death by his brothers, William,

the Huntington Living Center in Waterloo.

Olive was born on January 7, 1920 in Lodi, NY a daughter of the late
James and Emma (Landon) Baker. She graduated from Lodi High School
and worked at the Seneca Ordinance Depot During WWII as a munitions
handler. Olive then worked at Willard Psychiatric Center in Food
Service. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lodi Fire
Dept, and the Lodi Presbyterian Church Ladies Assoc. Olive and her
husband, Fran enjoyed many years of camping, she also enjoyed her
time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. Crafting and
crocheting were favorite pastimes for Olive as well.
Olive is survived by her husband, Francis E. Hurd of Waterloo, a
son, Charles L. (Linda) Hurd of Waterloo, a daughter, Connie (Paul)
Polce of Trumansburg; grandchildren, Andrew (Kelly) Hurd of Auburn,
NY, Matthew Hurd of Waterloo, Paula (Adam) Chard of Oneonta, NY, and
Sally Polce of Trumansburg; great grandchildren, Mackenzie,
Mercedes, Miranda and Mattia Hurd, and her special friend Frances
Matteson of Lawton, OK. She was preceded in death by her twin
sister, Dorothy Covert, and brothers, William, James and Edward
Baker. |

Mary Allen Rejmer,
age 93
a former resident of the Seneca and Tioga County areas, passed away
at her home in Lake Forest, CA on Sept. 10, 2007.
Born June 10, 1914 in Geneva, NY, Mary was a daughter of the late
John and Lillian (Baldridge) Allen. She spent her childhood and
early adult life in southern Seneca County before traveling to
Wheaton, IL to attend college. In 1941 Mary moved with her late
husband, Frank M. Rejmer, to Berkshire, NY where she resided until
her retirement in 1978. She then moved to CA where she resided until
the time of her death. Mary spent many years teaching piano in the
Newark Valley Central School District, and was the church organist
at Berkshire Methodist Church. She was a former member of the
Berkshire Reading Club, Daughters of the American Revolution,
Christian Women’s Club, and Wheaton Alumni Association. Her
religious faith was important to her as she was a former member of
Interlaken Baptist Church, Interlaken, NY, Berkshire Methodist
Church, Berkshire, NY, and Coast Bible Church in San Juan
Capistrano, CA.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise Rejmer Gibson of
Larchmont, NY; her son, David P. Rejmer of Chicago, IL; two
grandchildren Andy Rejmer and Abbey Rejmer Kremser; and three great
grandchildren.

Susan M.
Langner,
age 63,
of Interlaken, passed away on September 11 at her home.
Born
March 30, 1944 in Chicago, Susan was a daughter of the late Charles
and Virginia McHorter. She was a graduate of Elmhurst College with a
Bachelor's degree in Psychology and moved from Chicago to the
Interlaken area in 1994. Susan was an avid fisherwoman, loved
tending her rose garden, playing bridge and euchre, working
crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed her feline companions.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Langner; two sons, Douglas
(Yvonne) Ellinger of San Diego, CA, Scott (Sua) Ellinger of
Washington, DC; four grandchildren, James and Lucas Ellinger of San
Diego, CA, and Scott Jr. and Virginia Ellinger of Washington, DC.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Friday,
September 14, 2007, at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main St., Ovid, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Tokaz,

William J. Clair,
formerly of East Lake Road in Romulus, passed away on Monday (Sept
10, 2007) at Geneva General Hospital.
Calling hours were from 6 to 8pm, on
Thursday (Sept 13) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Stree, Ovid. A
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11am on Friday (Sept. 14)
at Holy Cross Church in Ovid. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery
in Ovid.
Bill was born on May 6, 1915, in
Romulus, a son of the late Timothy A. and Katherine (McKenna) Clair.
He had been a lifetime resident of the Ovid-Romulus area, and had
been a faithful communicant of the Holy Cross Church. Bill retired
from Willard Psychiatric Center as a staff attendant, and then
worked as the chief of security at Geneva General Hospital. He was
an avid hunter and fisherman, and truly enjoyed his home on Seneca
Lake.
He is survived by his children, Richard
(Ruth) Clair of Waterloo, Sharon Guerrie of Geneva, and Patricia
Blake of Georgia, 16 grandchildren and 20 grandchildren; sister,
Mary Rose Corcoran and brother, James Clair both of Ovid, and
numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his
loving wife of 67 years, Eleanor in 2005, and by his son, Timothy
P. Clair, sisters, Alice Hoppy and Dorothy Riley, and son in law
Eugene J. Guerrie.

David A. Vesley, age 72,
Wyers Point Road, died on Thursday (Sept 6) at Geneva General Hospital.
David was born on November 16, 1934 in
Ithaca, NY a son of the late Frank and Mary Vesley, and attended
Ithaca High School. He worked as a ticket agent for Eastern
Greyhound Lines. He raised and trained Brittany Spaniels for more
than 40 years, and traveled the country judging various
competitions. He was a certified bird dog trainer and judge, and
operated his own “Briarwood Kennels” in Ithaca. Dave had been a
member of the South Seneca and Interlaken Sportsmens Clubs.
He is survived by his longtime
companion, Jean Marie Poorman of Ovid, and stepsons, Wayne Hinkle of
Brooktondale, and Scott Vesley of Trumansburg and their families.
Private services will be observed in
accordance with Mr. Vesley’s wishes. Arrangements are under the

longtime resident of Ovid, died at Seneca Nursing & Rehab Center in
Waterloo on Monday,(Sept 3).

Church in Ovid at 11:00am on Friday, (Sept 7) Interment will be

Jim was born on November 22, 1928 in
Plains, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Robert and Margaret
(McGuiness) Thorp. He retired from Ithaca College where he had
worked as a custodian. Jim is survived by several cousins and his
closest friends.

May B. Grover Steinruck .
age 71
of Valois, passed away at home on September 4 after an extended
illness. She was 18 days shy of her 72 birthday.
Born September 22, 1935 in Montour Falls, May was a daughter of the
late William H. and Mabel E. (Mead) Fisher. She attended the Lodi
School and graduated from Ovid High School. May was employed for 35
years at Willard Psychiatric Hospital as a Therapy Aide and a
Licensed Practical Nurse. She was an avid volunteer for South
Seneca Ambulance when they began operating in the early 70’s. May
took great pleasure in researching local history and her family’s
genealogy. She also loved to quilt and sew.
In addition to her parents, May was preceded in death by her
husband, Elias A. Grover; a son, SPC4 James W. Grover; and a sister,
Cora M. Frederick.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Bob) Grover of Lodi; son,
John (Linda) Grover of Joliet, IL; sisters, Eileen (Richard) Symes
of Watkins Glen and Reda (Henry) Fazzary of Watkins Glen;
stepchildren, Susan Steinruck (Jeff) of Burdett, Amy (Randy) Kelly
of Burdett, Michael Steinruck of Valois and Christopher (Patti)

Ruth E. Turo,
age 86,
of Trumansburg died on Wednesday, (Aug 29) at Cayuga Medical Center
at Ithaca.
Ruth was born in Lodi, NY on May 22, 1921, a daughter of the late
Bert and Mary (Asay) Egan. She dedicated her talents and energy to
her family, making a loving home for her husband and four daughters.
Her home baked goods were cherished gifts to friends and family, and
she always looked forward to parties and family get togethers. She
had been a member of the Interlaken Reformed Church, and the ladies
auxiliary of the American Legion Post in Interlaken.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James O. Turo of
Trumansburg, her daughters, Cynthia (Howard Hair) Turo of
Interlaken; Deborah (Robert) Perrotto of Seneca Falls; Wendy
(Rayburn) Coolbaugh of Trumansburg; and Sally (Pete) VanIdistine of
Ithaca; and grandchildren, Ally (Mike) Ostrowski, Kathy (Don) Stuck,
Diana Perrotto, Erika (Christine Ablett) Woodams, and B.J. Woodams;
her sisters, Elizabeth Egan of Jacksonville; and Eleanor Tomkins of
Baldwinsville. Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret
Proper and Thelma Herman, and by her brothers, Llewelyn, Donald and
Arthur Egan.

Kasson L. Butler, 87,
Ovid, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.
The son of Floyd L. and Lena Lewis Butler, he was born October 12,
1919 in Erwin, NY. He attended Campbell
Central Schools and was employed for nearly 30 years at the
Dresser-Rand Company in Painted Post, NY. During World War 2, he
served in the European Theatre as a Military Police Officer and
Honor Guard in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the
Campbell United Methodist Church for over forty years before joining
the Ovid Federated Church when they moved
in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Ionne; sons Wayne (Molly) and Kevin
(Laurie) Butler; daughter Kim (Walter) Flower and his five
grandchildren: Scott, Sarah, Jessica and Mary Beth Butler and Cody
Flower; sisters Janice Craft of Corning and Betty Buck of Bath. He
was predeceased by his brother and four sisters, as well as a
daughter Krista Lee and granddaughter Krista.
A Memorial Service will be/was held at the Ovid Federated Church on
Saturday, August 4 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Diane Walker

age 86.
Formerly of Ovid, died July 31, 2007 at Geneva General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 3 at Christ
Episcopal Church, Main St., Willard, NY, with Rev.
Father Richard Strauss officiating. Burial will follow in Ovid Union
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
directed to the charity of one’s choice. Born May 17, 1921 in Romulus, NY, Robert
was a son of the late Harry and Anna (Clark) Kinne. After
graduation from high school, Robert enlisted in the U.S.Army where
he was involved in the Normandy Invasion. Upon his return home, he
worked the family owned dairy farm his entire career. Robert
appreciated being outdoors and working the land. He was a good
neighbor and was always willing to help out anyone when the need
arose. Robert also loved playing euchre and attending stock car
races, and he took great joy in family gatherings.
He is survived by three sisters, Ruth (Charles) Bounds of Vacaville,
CA, Elizabeth Furst of Auburn, NY, and Virginia Raisner of Somers Point, NJ.
Eight nieces and nephews also survive Robert.

both South Seneca and Interlaken Sportsmen’s Clubs and the Ovid VFW
Post #6200 and American Legion Post #463.
He is survived by his special family, Pam, Billy, Donna and Scott
Armitage of Romulus and his special friends, Martin, Lisa, Sarah and
Matthew Brewer, Dick McCall and Carolyn Martin. George was preceded
in death by his brother, Francis and sister, Edith.

Howard J. Smith, age 80,
lifetime resident of the Ovid and Willard areas, died in Clearwater,
FL on Sunday, July 15, 2007, following a brief illness. The family
will receive friends on Thursday (July 19) from 4:00 to 7:00pm at

Burial will be celebrated on Friday (July 20) at 10:00am at Holy
Cross Catholic Church by Fr. William Winters, OFMCap. Interment will

14521 or the charity of one’s choice. Howard was born on May 18,
1927 in Ovid, a son of the late Earl Smith and Pearl Smith Trafalet.
He graduated from Ovid High School in 1945 and immediately joined
the US Army Air Force, serving his country during WWII, stationed in
China. He attended the Ithaca School of Music, and will be
remembered for his participation in the Ovid Drum and Bugle Corps
and Geneva Appleknockers. He will also be remembered for his
participation in the Stan Sell Band, playing at the Romulus Hotel,
and later in the band, “For Dancers Only,” in which he played the
trumpet for many years. He worked in the recreational therapy
department at Willard State Hospital, where he enjoyed operating the
Willard Radio Station WWSH, showing movies for the patients and
local community at the Hadley Hall Theater, and playing on the
hospital softball team. He retired from Willard in 1982. He had also
been a member of the VFW Post #6200 in Ovid. He is survived by his
children, James C. (Mary) Smith of North Miami Beach, FL, Richard E.
(Sonya) Smith of Seneca Falls, NY, Robert F. Smith of Little
Meadows, PA, Roger J. (Donna) Smith of Clifton Springs, NY, and
Leatha (Tom) Smith-Fo of Middletown, NY, 16 grandchildren, a
brother, Arthur Smith of Syracuse, several nieces and nephews, and
his wife’s family. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 48
years, Elizabeth M. “Betty” Carroll Smith in 1996.

Pauline “Joy” O’Connell
age 77,
Pauline Coryell was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Evelyn (DePew)
Coryell of Ovid, New York, and when born on April 10, 1930 the
newspaper declared that “JOY” was brought to the Coryell family to
join her brother George. Joy O’Connell was a beautiful person that
continued to bring joy to those who have known her over the years.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 58 years, James
“Jimmy” O’Connell They resided in the Romulus area and rebuilt the
family home on Poplar Beach.
Joy worked in the health field over the years with starting her career
with Dr. Riemer in Romulus along with a
few other area physicians and eventually retiring from Seneca Army
Depot as Champus Advisor for the health clinic. Joy was active in
the Ford Library Book Club, member of the Romulus Alumni Association
and MacDougal School House.
A devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and daughter who always
put her family first. She loved spending time with her husband,
family and friends. Joy enjoyed music, boating and swimming in
Cayuga Lake, gardening, euchre, reading, theatre, traveling, and
spending endless hours laughing with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, James “Jimmy”
O’Connell; and daughter Diane (John) Sabourin Plattsburgh,
grandchildren Erin and Kevin, daughter Reenie (Richard) O’Marra
Louisville, Kentucky, grandchildren, Tim and Neil Larsen, son Edward
(Kathleen) O’Connell Waterloo, grandchildren Beth and Dan, daughter
Laurie (Edward) Bishop Le Roy, grandchildren Kaley and Meghan, son
Patrick of Auburn. She is also survived with 5 step-grandchildren
and 5 step great-grandchildren. Joy was preceded in death by her

operator at Willard Psychiatric Center, from where she eventually
retired.

of Auburn and Sherri (Martin) Thompson of Waterloo; her longtime
friend and companion, Bob Harwood of Waterloo; grandchildren, Adam

and Sarah Blakely and by 5 great grandchildren, her sisters, Clara
Rotunda of Florida and Mona Greco of Geneva. Ginny was preceded in

daughter Barbara Ekstrom (Zackery) of Kansas City; 1 grandson, Jesse
Stevens of Charleston, SC; 1 granddaughter, Sasha of Endicott; a
sister, Janet (Thomas) Breen of Fremont Ca.; a brother in-law,
Robert (Lorraine) Gunsauls of Denver, CO; his father-in law, Gerald

Jim was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church (Kidders –
Interlaken) He served as President of the congregation and lay
leader for several years. Jim was a member of South Seneca
Sportsmen’s Club, serving currently as Vice President and Chaplain.
He was also involved in the Friends of the National Rifle
Association. He served in the National Guard from 1970 thru 1974.
He attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. He was National
Sales Manager of Binghamton Hardware Co. until 1983 when he then
formed his own Manufacturer’s Representative Agency. With the
dedicated support of his two sales managers, Paul & Steve, Office
Manager, Deb and “jack of all trades”. Glen; Jim led his company to
a very successful business covering the northeast territory.

Born in Ovid on February 26, 1935, Margaret was a daughter of the
late Niels and Ruth (Burch) Mikkelson.
Margaret was employed for 30 years as a Therapy Aide at Willard

Survivors include her companion, Norman "Zeke" Wells of Ovid; two
daughters, Sandra J. (Joe) Pine of Hayts Corners, and Mary L.
(Willie J.) Kemp of Lyons; three sons, Ronald L. (Helen) Riley of

Peg was born in Syracuse, NY on March 23, 1921 the only daughter of
the late Earl F. and Ora A. (Rawley) Keefe. After she and her
husband, Arvo, had established their family, Peg began a 16 year
career at the University of New York in Syracuse, first at the
School of Law, and ultimately retired from the School of Nursing.
She and Arvo enjoyed extensive travel, winters in Myrtle Beach and
camping at Bowman Lake. Peg always supported the endeavors of her
husband and was the supportive arm of an active family.
Peg is survived by her children, Allen (Holly Gronberg) Efraimson of
South Hampton, NY, Linda (Barb Rosenblum) Beck of Geneva, and Eric
Efraimson of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Lisa Efraimson, Julie

Joseph was born on May 15, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late
Henry and Rosalie Harvey. He proudly served his country during the
Korean Conflict as a radio operator in the Philippines.
He moved to Staten Island in 1961, and for 15 years he worked at the
former J.Henry Schroeder Bank His career continued with JP Morgan
Bank, retiring in 1988 after 25 years of service to the bank. He was
a faithful communicant of Holy Child Parish, and served as an usher
for many years, and was a 4th Degree Knight of the
Tottenville Knights of Columbus Council #1675.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian O. Harvey, daughters; Barbara A.
Rosenblum (Linda Beck) of Geneva, Nancy E. (Ralph) Ferrara of Staten
Island, and a son; Steven J. (Diane) Harvey of Parlin, NJ, a nephew,
Joseph (Francine) Devine of Lake Ariel, PA, a niece, Sharon Murray

Danny was born on December 4, 1955 in Ithaca, the only son of Ronald
L. and Judith F. (Chaffee) Steve. He attended schools in Trumansburg
and Ovid and worked with his father at Ronnie's Body Shop in Ovid
for more than 15 years. Danny had recently completed medical
training to work as a medical assistant at North Medical Urgent Care
in Liverpool. Dan was in awe by Seneca Lake and its sunsets, often
photographing its beauty from Lodi Point.
He is survived by his loving family, a son, Jesse Steve of Ovid; a
daughter, Amber Steve of Geneva; his mother, Judy Steve of Ovid; his
father, Ronnie L. (Cindy Waid) Steve of Ovid; his sisters, Terri
Steve of Georgia, Veronica Trifoso of Missouri, and Vicki (Brooks)
Hendrix of Trumansburg; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins,
nieces and nephews. |

Dorothy was born on October 9, 1916 in Willard, NY, a daughter of
the late Cornelius A. and Margaret Murphy. Upon High School
graduation she attended nurses training and worked as an LPN at
Willard Psychiatric Center, retiring in 1972. She was a faithful
communicant of Holy Cross Church, and took great pride in
maintaining her home and living independently until just prior to
her death.
She is survived by her son, Jack (Kathy) VanLone of Waterloo, her
former daughter in law, Nancy Schoonover of Geneva, a niece, Joyce
Coene of Chili, NY, grandsons, David and Jeffrey VanLone and Mark
and Joseph VanLone, and 3 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, James in 1974, and by her
husband, Alvis in 1993, and by her sister, Frances Jordan in 2002. |

Kuleszo,
age 86
of 2520 Bromka Road,
went home to be with the Lord on Sunday (April 22) following a long
illness.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no public services, however
friends are asked to join the family at the Romulus Fire Hall on
Thursday (Apr 26) from 1:00 to 3:00pm to offer their condolences and

Tillie was born on February 9, 1921 in the town of Romulus, a
daughter of the late Charles and Phyllis Tillinghast. Tillie was a
communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the Ovid Federated Church
in Ovid. For several years she was the organist for Sunday Mass,
weddings and funerals at Holy Cross. She was also involved in the
raising and national showing of parakeets for years, until her
interests turned to Arabian horses. Being a gifted equestrian, she
showed her horses herself, riding them in English class, bringing
home several trophies, ribbons and awards. It was not uncommon to
see Tillie at the drive-thru window of the bank or the stopping for
ice cream in Ovid on horseback. Tillie was employed in her early
years as an LPN at Willard State Hospital. Later she drove school
bus for Romulus Central School until her retirement. Tillie loved to
attend the theatre and travel, for the last couple of years she
spent her winters on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
Tillie is survived by her children, Veronica Williams of
Spartanburg, SC, Valerie Hedrick of Cowpens, SC and Leo E. Kuleszo
of Romulus, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and by her
younger sister, June Moss of Seneca Falls, and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years,
Edward Leo Kuleszo and her siblings, Clyde and Mildred.

Al was born on August 7, 1928 in Nanticoke, PA, a
son of the late Victor B. and Ida E. Ahouse. He moved to the Lodi
area in the late 1940’s, and began his 35 year career as a Union
carpenter with the Corning Local #700. Al was also a farmer and milk
tester for the Dairyland Improvement Corp and Cornell Cooperative
Extension. He also served as the Lodi Town Supervisor from 1968 to
1974. Al was an avid hunter, and his friends and family will fondly
remember his devotion to the Green Bay Packers.
Al is survived by his companion of 31 years, June Kenyon, his
children; Gary (Anne) Ahouse of Jermyn, PA, David C. Ahouse of Lodi
and Melanie Ahouse of Ovid, a step-son, Dennis (Karen Morrow)
Kenyon, his step-daughter’s husband; Larry “Bart” Caslin,
grandchildren; Alex, Wesley, Gary, David, Ashley, Regan, Jonathan,
Nicolas and Trevor, two great grandchildren, siblings; Morgan Ahouse,
Bernard (Irene) Ahouse, Olga Bragg, and Mildred (Robert) Toole,
numerous nieces and nephews, and the mother of his children, Barbara
Coulters. He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Brenda
Caslin and by a sister, Ruth Brooks. |

Nellie F. Brown,
age 69
lifetime resident of the Ovid area, died on Thursday (Mar 22) at
Huntington Living Center in Waterloo.
Nellie was born on June 12, 1937
in Romulus, New York a daughter of the late Michael and Frances (Tomczack)
Goslicki. Upon graduation from Ovid High School, she was employed by
Willard State Hospital, and retired as a therapy aide after many
years of service.
She is survived by her children, Henry M. Brown of Ovid, Joanne
Brown of Elmira, Thomas W. (Virginia Graber) Brown of Ovid and
Edward Brown of Ovid, her grandchildren, Heather Brown and Michael
Proctor; her brother, Chester (Elinor) Goslicki of Ovid and a
sister, Christine Goslicki of Ithaca. Nellie was preceded in death
by her sister, Cassie and by her grandson, Robert Brown.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 14,
2007 at Holy Cross Cemetery of Ovid, officiated by Fr. William
Winters OFMCap, of her parish, Holy Cross. In lieu of flowers, the

Dollie D. Hamilton
McLaughlin,
age 82,
of Ovid, NY, went to her heavenly home March 31, 2007 after a long
battle with cancer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick McLaughlin; her
parents, Harvey and Clairbelle Hamilton; sisters, Margaret, Nina and
Elsie and brothers Frank and Orson.
Dollie is survived by one sister, Alice Parsons of Rushville; a
daughter, Patricia (David) Brust of Interlaken; sons, William
McLaughlin of Ovid and Bruce (Donna) Parsons of Newark. Bruce was
raised by Dollie’s sister Alice. Alice resides in Rushville. Many
memories are left with her six grandchildren, Terry (Cindy) Brust of
IL, Tammy (Jim) Steuer of Sheldrake, Teresa Brust Anderson DeRose of
IL, Scott McLaughlin of Interlaken and Adam and Matthew McLaughlin
both of Ovid. She is also survived by six great- grandchildren,
Courtney Brust, Gunnar Anderson, Richard DeRose and Alyssa DeRose
all of IL and Joy and Jeff Steuer of Sheldrake and several nieces
and nephews.
There are many others who also rightfully claim Dollie as “mom“. Her
extended family includes many close friends who supported her in so
many wonderful ways during good times and through difficult ones.
Dollie spent many hours crocheting, working newspaper word puzzles
and jigsaw puzzles. Line dried clothes and visits with family and
friends on the backyard swing reflect who she was.
In her younger years Dollie worked in local vineyards tying vines
and picking grapes. She also worked on the Muck Farms and later took
on inside jobs where she wore many hats, including nursing home
kitchen staff in Interlaken. Dollie retired from the Seneca Army
Depot on May 6, 1977, with 20 years of civil service, where she was a lift
truck operator, commissary shelf stocker and thoroughly enjoyed her
duties of a switch board operator.
There will be a Graveside Service on Wednesday, April 4,
2007 at 2:00pm at the Lake View Cemetery, County Road 150,
Interlaken. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church,
4443 East Seneca Rd., Trumansburg, on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 11:00am with the Rev. Pete Hood officiating. Family and friends are
invited to attend both services, as their schedules allow.

91,
longtime resident of Ovid, died on Friday, March 30, at the Living
Center at Geneva North.

Ruth was born on May 4, 1915 in York, PA, a daughter
of the late Clarence and Belle (Daron) Creager. Upon completion of
High School, Ruth moved to Ovid in 1934. She was a communicant of
Holy Cross Church and had worked at Willard Psychiatric Center as a
dining room attendant for a number of years. Ruth had lived at
Verona Village for nearly 20 years prior to her move to the Johnson
Home for Ladies in Seneca Falls in 2003.
She is survived by nearest nieces and nephew, Sharon (Mark) Ricci of
Burton, OH, Valerie Potter of Painted Post, and Ronald Eva of Genoa,
and an extended number of nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and by their only

Leonard McMillen Jr.,
age 69,
of 8618 County Road 137, died at the Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira
following a brief illness.
Leonard was born on January 24, 1938 in the Town of Ovid, a son of
the late Leonard and Mildred (Weeks) McMillen Sr. He had worked at
Ithaca Tire Company for 25 years, before he was employed by the Town
of Lodi. He spent 14 years working in all areas of the Highway
Department, retiring in 1995. His retirement years were spent doing
the things he enjoyed most, fishing, spending time with family and
enjoying the community that he loved so much.
He is survived by his wife, Edna and children; Len (Tina) Carlsen
and Kristine (Gerald Veeder) Carlsen all of Seneca Falls, Laurie
VanZile of Medina, Penny Shaffer of Ithaca, several step-children to
include Lynn Rodas of Seneca Falls, his brother, James McMillen of
Buffalo and sisters, Donna (Larry) Creswell, Joyce Denmark of Lodi,
Anne (Robert) McCord of Jacksonville, and a sister in law; Ruth
(Hubble) McMillen of Jacksonville, 15 grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by the mother of
his children, Shirley Jean, and by his brothers, Kenneth, Floyd, and
Harold and by a sister, Carolyn.

Mabel was born on March 6, 1907 in the town of Junius, a daughter of
the late George and Blanche Feek. She was a graduate of Waterloo
High School; and obtained her teaching credentials from Cortland
State Normal School in 1931, and received her Bachelors Degree from
SUNY Cortland in 1954. Mabel taught in many Seneca County Schools.
The majority of her career was spent at Romulus Central School where she taught 5th
grade for over 25 years, retiring in 1969.She then worked as a
remedial reading instructor at South Seneca Central School for three
years after her retirement.
Mabel had been a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of
Seneca Falls, and served on the Board of the Southwick Cemetery for
50 years. Mabel is survived by her son, Duane F. (Judy) Buck of
Ovid, grandchildren, Mary Dale Buck, of Oklahoma City, OK, Duane
(Kristi) Buck Jr of Cape Coral, FL, Marcia Manee of Fort Myers, FL,
and Joseph Buck of Meridian MS, great grandchildren, Elise and Jenna
Manee, Molly and Lily Buck,; a stepdaughter, Joyce (Francis) Brady
of Seneca Falls and her children, Jeffrey (Kim) Brady and Daniel (Wei

age 85,
passed away on Monday, February 26, 2007, at
the Geneva Living Center North.
Born on May 15, 1921 in Cleveland, OH, June was a daughter of the
late Clarence S. and Emily A. (Durrant) Ostberg.
June resided on Prospect St. in Willard for thirty years, while employed by Willard Psychiatric
Center as a ward attendant. She had also resided in St. Cloud, FL
and was a previous resident of Verona Village in Ovid.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Willard, a life
member of VFW Post 6200 Auxiliary, a member of CSEA, NewYork Covered
Bridge Society, and a former member of Eastern Star.
June was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William
Langley, a son Thomas Langley; two granddaughters, Suzanne and Nancy
Sue; a sister, Berta Feasel; and a step-brother, Ted Stivers.
She is survived by four sons, William (Melody) Langley of Ovid,
Robert (Linda) Langley of Victor, James (Patricia) Langley of
Romulus, Larry (Lynda) Langley of Seneca Falls; two daughters, Judy
(Gary)
Reinhard of Lima, and Susan (Bob) Neal of Indialantic, FL; seventeen
grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. June is also
survived by two sisters, Carol (Joe) Kaiser of Ovid and Betty (Art)
Millspaugh of Trumansburg; and several nieces and nephews.

age 48
of Romulus, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 26,
2007.
She had been employed at Willard Psychiatric Center for 16 years.
She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her
grandchildren, and delighted in helping other people. Julie loved
the holidays and decorating and especially shopping and cooking. She
enjoyed candles, driving, gardening, cleaning and home health care.
She is survived by her father, Charles Hayes of Romulus; her
brothers, David (Laurie) Hayes and Dennis (Gwen) Hayes, all of Ovid;
her children, Greg Mayo of Geneva, Steven Mayo of Syracuse, and
Brittany Hollister of Seneca Falls; her grandchildren, Gregory and
Cody Mayo of Geneva; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Hayes; a brother,
Michael; and a sister, Susan Hayes. She will be sadly missed and

of 196 North St., Geneva, died on Thursday, February

Born in Pontiac, MI on April 13, 1921, Marie was a daughter of Lee
Roy and Mable (Ryan) Calkins.
She was employed for many years as a nurse’s aide at the VA Medical
Center in Bath and retired from the VA Medical Center in
Canandaigua.
Marie was a member of the Moose Club and she also enjoyed being a
Foster Grandparent for over ten years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Dempsey, and a son,
Ernest Cornell.
Marie is survived by her son, David Dempsey of Geneva; a stepson,
Gerald Dempsey of Horseheads; a sister, Helen Calkins of Ann Arbor,
MI; a brother, Keith Johnson of Zephyr Hills, FL; seven
grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

414, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 16, 2007.
Glenn was born on August 22, 1923
in Van Etten, New York, a son of the late Andrew and Verna
(Shoemaker) Larison. He was a retired builder, having worked for the
Geuy Construction Co. in Rosewood, Ohio for many years. He and his
wife, Jean moved to Ovid from Conover, Ohio in 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Michael (Diana) Larison
of Big Indian, NY, David (Tacy) Larison of Sidney, Ohio, and Leslie
(Ron) Stackhouse of Van Etten, NY, step sons, Garth (Ruth)
Dugolinsky of Neptune, NJ, and Brent (Susan) Dugolinsky of Oneonta,

age 89
of 230 Ashton Place in Clifton Springs and formerly of Romulus
passed away at his home on Sunday.

Gordon was born on September 1, 1917
in Romulus, NY a son of the late J. Wallace and Mary Alice (Church)
Coryell. He was a 1935 graduate of Romulus High School. He proudly
served his country during WWII in the US Army from 1945 to 1946. He
worked as a carpenter for the Finger Lakes Council Local Carpenter’s
Union for more than 30 years. He had been a Mason with the F&A.M.
Fayette Lodge #539, a life member of the Romulus Volunteer Fire
Dept, and served on the Romulus Cemetery Assoc. His early church
life began at the former St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Romulus,
and then became active at the Grace Episcopal Church-Willowdale.
Gordon was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time spent on the lake.
He was also an active family man, and treasured his time spent with
children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, David R.(Heidi) Coryell of Ovid,
Mary C. (Gary) Sabin of Farmington, and JoAnne C. (Curt) Niemeyer of
Scottsville, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Gordon was
preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn in 2004, and by his brother,
Willis A. and sister J. Lois Coryell.

Saturday (Jan 20).

the Ovid American Legion Post #463 Ladies Auxiliary. She was active
in her retirement, often found to be bowling, playing bingo, and she
especially enjoyed baking for her family.
She is survived by her sons; John R., James A., and Ricky E. Zammett,
all of Ovid, and a daughter, Ann Bond of Binghamton,
8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her former husband, John J.

Elizabeth Alice Myers,
age 93,
of Prospect St. Ovid, died on Monday, January 18,
2007.
Born on February
3, 1913 in Ashley, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth was the daughter of
George and Anne Cunningham Drumheller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E.
Myers; one son, Robert Myers, Sr. and one daughter, Priscilla
MacCheyne. Elizabeth is survived by one daughter, Carol Myers of
Ovid; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five
great-great-grandchildren and a large number of extended family and
friends.
In
keeping with Elizabeth’s wishes, no public services will be held.
She will be laid to rest in the Albert Cemetery, Mountaintop, PA
where she lived and raised her family.

Stanley S. Sherry Jr.,
age 81,
of Interlaken, died on Monday, January 15, 2007,
at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19,
2007, at the Interlaken Reformed Church, officiated by Pastor Derek
VanDeSlunt. Interment will be held at the Florida National Cemetery
in Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Stanley's name may be directed to
the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., East Syracuse, NY

James K. “Jim” Howard,
age 54
of 5196 Route 89, died on Sunday, (Jan 14) at
Highland Hospital in Rochester.
A Memorial Service will be held
at 2:00pm on Tuesday (Jan 16) at the Varick United Methodist Church
(Ernsberger Road) officiated by Rev. Barbara DeAngelis. Private
prayers of committal will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, memorials in Jim’s name may be directed to the charity of
one’s choice.
Jim was born on October 29, 1952 in Rochester, NY, a son of Thomas
and Alice (Hicks) Howard. He was a graduate of Fairport High School.
Jim worked for the Kodak Corporation as a group leader in
construction at the various facilities in the Rochester area. A
quiet and simple man, he considered that time spent hiking and
hunting was time well spent. His early retirement afforded him the
opportunity to spend the past summer on his beloved Cayuga Lake. He
also enjoyed a good round of euchre with friends and family.
He is survived by his parents, Tom and “Corky” of Romulus, a niece,
Yvonne Oakden of North Carolina, his friend of many years and former
wife, Marie of East Rochester, his aunts and uncles, James (Barbara)
Hicks of Willard, Virginia LaBour of Seneca Falls, William S. Howard
and Nancy Howland both of Rochester, and several cousins. Jim was
preceded in death by his brother, Thomas A. Howard in 1984, and by
his nephew, Mason Stacey, Mason’s wife, Chaunacey and by their son,
Brett in 2003.

Lewis L. VanHorn Jr.
age 52,
of 6436 Iron Bridge Road, died unexpectedly on
Saturday, (Jan 6) in Covington, Louisiana.
A visitation for friends will be held on Friday (Jan 12) from 4:00
to 7:00pm at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main St, Ovid. A private
memorial ceremony will be held at the family home on Saturday.
Lewis was born on June 16, 1954 in Seneca Falls, the son of Louis L.
and Madeline (Hay) VanHorn Sr. He was very fond of the outdoors,
and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His fondness for the outdoors also
led to his profession as an arborist, and he moved to Louisiana in
the wake of Hurricane Katrina to apply his skills in the clean-up
effort.
He is survived by his parents, and siblings, Leslie (Barbara)
VanHorn Sr. of Willard, David (Charlene) VanHorn of Romulus, Cynthia
(Fred) Brown of Willard, and Jeffrey VanHorn of Colorado Springs,
CO, and several nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by
his sister, Sonta in 1982. |
